Tablet Mount

I finally got one of those fancy tablets.. and mounted it in the truck!

What/Why:
The reason I wanted a tablet mounted was so that I could use various maps while on trips and have them accessible.. all while not using my phone and its battery/Data.

I went with the Galaxy tablet because it has a Micro SD card slot and WiFi & GPS capability. Meaning I could download the map of the area I was going ahead of time and just use the GPS to navigate around.

Parts/Cost:
$80 (normally $120): Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" E Lite 8gb WiFi (HERE)
$30: Arkon Slim-Grip drill base mount (HERE)
$10: 32GB Micro SD Card (wow these have become inexpensive!)
$10: Backcountry Navigator Pro App [for Android]


Tools:
-Drill
-Short wood screws

Time:
10 mins..

Procedure:
Just find where you want to mount it, mark the locations for the screws, drill some pilot holes and mount it.

Regarding the APP. It is the only app I have paid for, ever. But it is completely worth it. It has maps of the country from tons of different sources: CalTopo, US Topo, OpenCycleMaps showing terrain worldwide, USGS, Canada Topo, Marine map, USGS Color Aerial photography, and Accuterra (for an extra cost). You can set waypoints and record tracks.

I would suggest trying Locus Map Pro. I used to use Backcountry Navigator Pro, but Locus blows it away IMO.

I would suggest trying Locus Map Pro. I used to use Backcountry Navigator Pro, but Locus blows it away IMO.

If I had not already paid for this one, I would definitely check that out. Does have some nice features though..

I'm curious of how the ride quality is since you moved the rear shock to the outside of the frame. I've been thinking about doing this for a while.

Its not a big change, the level ratio of the shocks was made closer to 1 so they will feel more firm.

Ya'll have a better basketball team in Ohio than Denver, but that's about the only thing you'll miss

I don't really offroad too much Jim, just a happy 3rd gen owner who frequents the site and try to maintain the rig nicely.

I have a 4 month old so even if I wanted to go to Moab, out of the question right now.

I'm in the city (Denver), but I frequent Golden since my in-laws are up there.

Highlands Ranch is a super nice area, but you kind of have to work in the tech center if you're going to live that far south, downtown for example would be quite a commute from HR.

Driving out from Ohio, but the truck will not be returning to Ohio. Leaving in Abq probably until I move.

Yeah the ass end is way to high isn't it? haha. I have a CBI swingout, another 315 duratrac, and a spare wheel coming. Once I see how it sits, I may swap springs at Toytec in denver on the drive out..

Your 4Runner sits just like my '97... way high in the back... but I like it for some reason. They carry gear really well when they are set up like that, too.

They did indeed improve the latch, I was looking through a lot of your troubles and seeing how that changed before I went with it.

Awesome build as always! One of my future mods would definitely be the alternator/big 3 mod upgrade so thanks for putting a grocery list and tutorial for it! Ive also been wanting the all pro bumper for my rig. Theres a guy on craigs selling his rig with one and im trying to talk him into trading with cash on top haha. My only concern which is minor is with of the bumper. Wish it was a tad widee to accomdate the flares but no biggie.

The latch, and the actual tire mount as well from what I can see. The tire mount is where the weld broke on mine.

I always imagined breaking a CV would be a dramatic event, with grease and metal flying about, but they go quietly. Just a little crunch like stepping on a coke can. It'll be cool to check out that diesel swapped 80 series too. I was at Scott's house (SGT Taco) before he left and a guy stopped by who had a 40th anniversary edition with the same swap as your Dad. It was strange hearing a Toyota make those kinds of noises.

Let's try and run a trail together. I'd really like to get on Trifecta (or any part of it) this year. I'm going to avoid Kanes and 7 mile because I ran them both the last two trips.
