Ripcord's 2002 Sport Ed. Version 2.0

I have spent a few days under the hood of the 96-00 style 4runners taking measurements, I knew that would be an issue before I even started..

I have a decent design working, just need to get back from some time off to finish everything up on it.

Cool. I'm curious to see what you came up with. I'm sure it's gonna be good.

It's going to be a tight fit, but it looked like it's going to work. Hopefully I'll have at least the fuse box next time we get together.

So I know I'm late to the game but I have a question about your fuse box setup. Your not using relays and putting the full power from your accessories through your switches? Also if I were to do something similar what's the advantage of having 2 circuit breakers installed? Thanks bud, your runners have been inspiration for many mods I have done.

What I said was that I did not modify the wiring harnesses for the accessories I added. For example my light bar uses a relay and I kept that, but my fog lights did not come with a relay so yes the power for them runs through the switch just as the manufacturer intended.

1 breaker is from the BIG 3 mod and the other is a master breaker for the fuse box itself. Its not two breakers on the fuse box. There will be an option for people to only have 1 breaker once I start selling them.

Perfect thank you. Also if I wanted the accessories to be powered full time and not off the ignition then I can just by pass that relay altogether correct?

That was the reason I added it, yes. I wouldn't want full time power to them though, I had battery drain issues when mine was like that.

Lockers & Gears are ordered! Current ARB promotion includes a free High Output compressor when you order two lockers.

No prices? Lol

I spec'd out the exact same thing a few weeks ago. ECGS sounds like the way to go but I might end up doing it myself. Just depends on how long the wife will let me keep the rig down. And if I can find someone with a little diff experience to double check my work.

Congrats on the purchase and may they serve you well.

ECGS was still thousands of dollars (yes, multiple thousands) less than a few local shops I talked to. I got diffs from them on my last 4runner too, they are amazing to work with. Highly recommended.

I do a lot of stuff myself, but setting up diffs is one big area I leave to professionals. Let's hope its worth the money, busy wheeling season ahead.

Hah, the fuse box showed up today, so I could swing by your place some time after work this week.

How difficult is it to replace the front diff? I too took advantage of the ARB sale and bought rd132 a few weeks ago. Not regearing at this point and having one of my friend install the locker for me. I wanted to go ECGS route for front and rear but couldn't justify spending ~$3200.

Let me know if you need a helping hand when you are ready to install your 3rd member and front diff. I can help as well as learn :)

Thursday is my next available day.

So jealous! Just one question on the rear gears... don't we have ABS rings near the brake drums? Is "ABS Diff: ABS Housing" correct? Maybe it's different for your '02 versus my '98.
Right you are. I will have to fix that.

Getting the front diff in and out is quite an annoying job. Its time consuming and you have to take a lot apart. It will be a few weeks before any parts are here anyway.

I would very much agree with the front being a pain in the a**. I found it was easiest to pull the motor mounts and lift the engine up slightly to give the clearance to get the diff out. You can do it without though.

Swapped to 890s

I swapped out my rear springs today, picked up some used 890s.

The 861s were far too stiff based on the amount of weight I carry. They were a rough ride..

My before fender to hub measurements were 24.5" and I dropped down about 1.5" to 23" now. The ride is MUCH better and I love how level she sits now.

BEFORE w/861s

Having a little fun and took some measurements. Found out my shocks are still limiting my downtravel by about 4". Thinking I may have mounted them too high..

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/149794382@N06/35409748601/in/album-72157682681808563/" title="20170407_132343"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4287/35409748601_3a0d7e8fa5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="20170407_132343"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The shocks (when attached) are not limiting my uptravel at all and they have another couple inches to being bottomed out. I will either adjust the mounting point or just throw some longer shocks in there as it is now.

I also still need to extend my bump stops! Have been meaning to get the blazer bumps for a long time.

I really like the new stance it looks much more balanced. How much weight over stock do you think you are in the rear with the bumper, spare, and cargo?

AFTER w/890s

Well damn I've been trying to figure out which rear spring to use to get me level-ish with a rear cargo box/sleeping platform and only a 1.5-2" lift up front, running 265/17's. I finally settled on the 890, but if you're level with 315's and 890's, there's way that would work for me. It would be too tall. Guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board.

Btw... any progress on the fuse block tray-thingys? =)
