rochmpr Rev. 4 - Broke (Build) Thread

Pretty much wrapped up the storage box before Christmas. Have some minor thing to complete, but it is securely installed in the rear of the Runner.

Fabricated a catch for the latch in order to secure the cargo and lock up.


Installed in the back. Used some leftover carpet tile from a project at work.


Dividers in one drawer. The furthest back is large enough for antifreeze and oils. Had to notch the dividers for the catch.


Built in a special "hardware" holder. Need to build a hinged lid with cam lock for additional security.


Need to clean this up a bit, but since there wasn't much wood left for a secure lock, added some flat bar to reinforce the lock/handle.

Great build thread. Not sure why I haven't seen it before today.

Question: How are you liking the Toyo's? I'm in the process of locking and regearing so 34s are in the future. A good friend of mine is on MTRs but I don't know anyone first hand running the Toyo's.

The MTR's were a consideration, but ultimately went with the Toyo's due to the 10 ply and puncture resistance plus traction and overall performance. They are by far the heaviest tire, though.

In all, I am very happy with them, but I have no experience with MTR's in the past 12 years.

The weight is what has me worried. I need to compare them to my current tire to get a feel for them. Gears and lockers ordered today so I'll wait until that's installed before any decision. Thanks for the input!

a good compromise tire for weight that is also 10 ply and equally as durable is the General Grabber red label. its not nearly as quiet though.

I'd love to give them a shot but I can't get them in a 34" that I can tell. I'm not sure I'm ready to make all the changes to run a true 35" (mainly the fender sheet metal work).

Truck looks awesome. Im in the market for a front bumper on my 2016 TE. running all the same suspension as you are with the MT LT and upper and lower rear links.

From the pics it looks like the edges of the bumper warp out a tiny bit from being flush with the truck. Is that just to mitigate body flex and rubbing or is that something that could be bent in flush to fit cleanly?

you don't want to do that unless you want the bumper rubbing on the body every time you go over a bump. under normal driving conditions the frame ends vary about a 1/3" in height due to frame flex

the wing spread on the bumper is to allow for the tube wrap around that is optional, and to allow the frame to flex independently of the bumper

How did you attach the drawer box to the Runner?
How much does it weight?

Used an "I" bolt with fender washers. Had to cut the threads to length as it was 4" long. Clean-up the threads with a grinder and flapper wheel. Attached to the four points in the truck. Pretty much like a lot of people have done and also, easily removable, if needed.

As for weight, it's heavy, almost two sheets of cabinet grade plywood and four 34" extended heavy duty slides

Mikey, for reference, besides screwing the whole thing together, I also used ¼" wood dowels, which you can see in post #137 and wood glue. THis thing is NOT coming apart.

Mine should be very similar and I plan to do two smaller modules that would be located in place of each of the second row seats. When traveling with only my wife, it would allow more storage and hopefully a nice platform to spend the night in the wild. When traveling with one or two persons, I would place the seats back as needed.
