Sad day :( 4runner going to the shop

So today when I was driving my 97 4runner up an incline all of a sudden there was this bumping which felt like the road had bumps, but I think it was the car. Then hoping it was the road I turned down my music to listen. It seemed normal until I got to my hill....

My hill is about 1 mile up a 30 degree to 40 degree angle I guess. Well up the steepest part it wouldnt shift down when it needed to and barely made it up. I even floored it and it stayed in what seemed to be 3rd. I even dropped the knob to 2 and put on etc. Nothing. Got home and stopped where it was wavering in and out like it was going to stall. I was on my way to the shop when I couldnt even drive on flat surfaces anymore so I left it down in a parking lot overnight because AAA couldnt tow it to the shop before they closed. My mom says shes thinking of dumping the car depending on what needs to be done. It has 180000 miles and still looks pretty good an ran well till today, but im hoping I can keep it. Well now Ill be driving the Vette and the Highlander on free gas for a while . It also sucks because I was going to sell my sub on friday, but now I dont have a car to show it in. Hopefully Ill be able to use my friends hookups to show it works.

Oh well... anyone think they know whats going on?

mine did something like that but ended up being only a clogged fuel filter... 15 bucks later i was rollin again!

dont quit on the runner. start with the basics. plugs, fuel filter, air filter and clean the MAF. engine light on? go to yotatech.com and search seafoam and see if that will help. go to autozone and have the alt tested. kinda seems like it may be outa juice. so many little things to do. i was driving back from a wheeling trip. my batt light was on after i went through a deep ass hole. turned out the alt fried from being submerged. it was driving like that on its way out for about the last 10 miles.
anyhow, hope you can fix it with the basics man and just remember, fix this for cheap or have another payment? i vote fix it!

500bucks later shes running like a champ. Had the major service done. I think it was the spark plugs and something else. I had it towed to the shop and then picked it up after they were closed. I dont even know where the reciept is.

so call them and get a receipt. cahiers are open on the weekends here. you need to find out what the did.

500 bucks....for a spark plug? i hope there is a something else with that half a grand service

prob replaced the alt too for that price

He did a major service or something. Im actually going to look around in my car for the reciept. Maybe fixed the coolant leak also.
