Safari snorkel on a 5th gen?

Yes, you're a champion to be sure. Arb put you in an uncomfortable spot having such a high profile rig and then putting a big unicorn horn on it. No one with half a clue envies the position you've been in. My beef is with arb's process and the fits and starts with which this thing has been developed (not developed?) over the last 6 years. I'm my opinion they should have kept the whole thing under wraps until is was released to retailers for public consumption. Having a prototype developed in full view of the public eye - or worse yet, in front of a group of enthusiasts - is asking for pissed off potential customers and a pissed off beta tester. In this regard, this situation really is no different than the course that the supercharger has taken.

Please keep in mind it's not ARBs fault. It's Safaris. Two different companies under one roof. Also I'm not mad at anyone but the people who whined about it on this forum.

The mold is done. It'll be released. This was a major hurdle. I feel bad for anyone who drilled out their truck for the knock offs.

Did you have issues running the FTS snorkel?? Not sure how you knock off a snorkel, only so many ways to do it.....and it came out years before the Safari

I ask because you seem to knock it often/hard and while I haven't used or seen either I would think I could repair fiberglass but not so much ABS and neither will survive between the 4runner and a rock face or tree. Maybe one is more robust to tree branches etc but that's speculation on my part.

Personally I like the LOOK of the FTS better but would buy the ARB for more faith in ongoing support should I need a part or piece

ABS tends to BEND, and not shatter or crack like fiberglass or PVC which is the case with these off brands. Also the Safari is a nylon reinforced ABS, which means you can actually put the entire weight of the vehicle on the snorkel. That sounds pretty extreme, but there's been videos where people go down massive drop offs in Australia and the vehicle crashes down on the A-pillar, and besides the snorkel being dented in the A-Pillar is fine. That's pretty amazing.

So that's where you're wrong, kiddo! :P

I've seen the FTS snorkel. I don't care for it's construction, but hey it's not my body work or money.

Safari makes the BEST snorkel out there, and is worth the wait.

He referenced it, but I have to wonder if delays were not just "corporate" but perhaps the initial "test", i.e. Read this thread from page one and see that lawndart did not have the first prototype.
 
So, does anyone know what happened to [MENTION=100172]Jim82[/MENTION]? Did he just toss up deuces and roll out with the first prototype?

Nice video, and while it makes a point for all I know that ABS is cracked.....:yield: My point wasn't that the ABS isn't a better material just that there really is nothing wrong with fiberglass for 99% of users, and someone new reading your posts (who are going to have nothing but admiration based on your build) would think the FTS is a horrible product and I don't think that's justified.

Carry on with your amazing build and I may one day join in the ARB Snorkel club .....because I can.

The FTS stuff becomes brittle when exposed to UV. Hey man, it's not my money or my fender panels. As they say, not my monkeys not my circus. But it's NOT in the same league as the Safari products. I get that some people just want the "look" of a snorkel...

I've seen demos where Safari puts the entire weight of the vehicle on a snorkel, and it bends, but does not break.

Hello,

I have not "dropped" off the face of the earth as some may have alluded to. I had been in contact with ARB CEO every other month inquiring about updates up until OCT 2016 when he told me the date Safari would be back.

I do have a production model on my truck last week and it was installed last week. I had the 3D print snorkel for some 19 months. I know ARB had originally expected it to come out that summer (2015), then it was that fall, then next year, then this summer, then this fall. certainly not the fault of ARB here in the states those guys have been great. Maybe production problems with Safari, but I don't know.

When I picked up my truck last Thursday I spoke with the Safari Engineer very briefly. Nice guy.

The production model I have does appear to be slight smaller than the 3D model, but I'm not sure by how much. I think I took some pics with measurement tape, I'll see if I can find them, I'll try to get some new ones up this week/end.
