Scanner apps/tools for iPhones and Apple OS

So it seems that there are some very cost-efficient products you can get to read codes and check engine lights for the 5th gen 4runner, but as far as I know, they only work with Android-based apps. There was a thread on this topic, but I never saw anything for iPhones discussed:

i was on the verge of creating a thread about this. I just downloaded an app called "OBD Fusion" for ios yesterday. It cost $10, but is the closest thing to Torque I have found. I was able to create a PID that will read ATF temp.

So far this is the best app for iphone I have found.

The Elm 327 adaptor can be found for both iPhone and Android. I have used this with my Android for years now and it works flawlessly.
Plugs right into the OBD port.

Wifi being the critical point here. Unless something has changed, iOS doesn't allow the use of Bluetooth enabled obd II scanners

that's what i thought as well, because i use the Carista app on iOS device and had to use a wifi enable OBDII dongle

I think only one of these worked...but I was to lazy to delete one and I'm not verifying PIDs at the moment

Yes.

Just FYI... You will only be able to read standard ODBII codes. Toyota does not seem to report any mfg specific codes via ODBII.

So not all lights on your dash will reveal a code over ODBII. You have to hook up TIS Techstream to get at most of it (which is also a POS from my experience). Toyota seems way behind the times in terms of diagnostics.... Thank goodness they don't have problems very often.

Well for example, I have a the 'maintenance required' light flashing briefly every time I start my 4r. I think it's because I'm due for an oil change (last one was about 5k miles ago)....but I just wanted to make sure before I did the change.

Will the iPhone app be able to give me details on the 'maintenance' light flashing or will I need the TIS Techstream?

Also do you have TIS Techstream? If so, where did you get it?
