I was finally the successful buyer of a 2006 Scion head unit on ebay. I guess all of you kept beating me to the punch recently. Anyway, I know there are some posts detailing the process of replacement so I'm not asking for that. What I want to know is; how long does the process take from start to finish. Thanks.

If you use castalucci's instructions, then it won't take you much time at all. I don't think they would have changed much in 3 years.
I've poked around back there numerous times and I can get to the headunit in about 10 minutes.

So, whats the difference between the Scion OEM head unit and the 4Runner OEM head unit?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around why someone would buy a OEM head unit to replace an...OEM head unit.
I've tried asking this question on other threads here...no answers yet.
As you can see (signature) I have a 06 4Runner, but have the most basic CD player/sound system. I rarely go with the best sound system as it is my general intention to replace everything with aftermarket goodies.
I keep reading all this raving about the the Scion head unit...so I'm curious...whats all the hub-bub about...???

There is one thread (if you do a search) that has about 14 pages of replies. Read that and it will tell you much. Bottom line is allegedly much better sound and you maintain the use of the auxillary input in the console and all the steering wheel control buttons. I'll be able to tell you more after I install next week. Can't wait!!!

The base unit that comes with the 4Runner (tape and CD unit) sounds like crap. The Scion unit (made by pioneer) has a built in amplifier and it sounds much better. If you want an upgrade that sounds OK and is inexpensive, it's an easy mode.
If you have a "critical ear" then you need to spend more money.

Sweet, thanks for the replies. Do these Scion HUs have RCA pre-output capability? I don't like using line converters...
This is the Wife's vehicle, her ear is not as critical as mine, so basically...I'm just looking to upgrade the system a bit, throw in a amp/sub combo (in the stock location) and be done with it.
