We all know 4Runner seats aren't that comfortable, especially if you have base model cloth. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go all out on PRP seats or just upgrade to Limited Leather or 01-02 Sport seats but when I saw [MENTION=144287]Hardizzy[/MENTION] selling a pair of Sport seats for $100 I had to take them. Even if they were Grey & my interior is Oak. I spent the coin on Tan & Black Coverking NeoSurpreme custom covers & will switch over the Oak side pieces & the Grey should dissapear. No pics of that. I have just the one Grey DS seat in right now. I like that they have the lumbar adjustment which the 99 base seats dont. I'll take pics of everything after I clean up the frames & put the covers on.

I live close the highway where Hardizzy commuted between school & home so we met at a gas station & made the exchange. He even gave me a working clock for nothing too. He grabs them every time he goes to a pick & pull. LOL Real nice guy.

These seats aren't as clean as mine but I'll shampoo them before I put the Coverkings on. My OG seats have had covers on them since new so they're probably the cleanest 99's on the planet.

After driving for a few weeks with new Red Line 75-90 in the rear diff I had a small axle seal leak. I was pretty bummed. I checked my breather first & it was clogged/rusted so I decided to do the extended breather mod while I was at it. Well that fixed the leak. I dodged a bullet with that one!

I've seen write ups where people remove the fuel filler neck cover in the wheel well & say this mod can be done in an hour. LOL It took no more than 15min. I made a small X with a utility knife in the plastic next to the gas cap & fed the line in that way. Dont feed the line in from the bottom, 2 hose clamps & 2 zip ties & you're done. It takes longer to air up 4 tires. I didn't take any picks because it went so fast but I grabbed all of the items from Amazon except for the new OEM breather that I got from the dealer.

LOL, I'm getting close! My next post will be from 2017! :dancin: I only did a few things last year. E-Locker axle swap, new sub & rust repairs. It was up on jacks from July to Oct & then it got too cold. I stuck it in the garage for the winter because I didnt get to the drum brakes.

I got started late last year because of a bad case of Poison Ivy from the property I bought next to my house. I was chopping back the jungle last May & got my ass kicked. My lawn tractor also threw a rod right through the block. I was not having fun! LOL I picked up two doner tractors from CL, same model as mine, Craftsman LT-2000. So now I have parts for days & a place to keep them. I'm thinking about doing a build thread for it. :bigok:

The rubber surround on my JL Audio 12" W0 finally started to tear. I installed it back in 2006 when I moved the JL 10" W0 into my Corolla's trunk. It has survived major punishment from old school hip-hop & true Heavy Metal. I figured an upgrade was necessary! Behold the JL Audio 12 W1V3-4. Got it off Amazon for $149.94 which was a good deal. Now they're around $180.

Installed in ported box. I love the all Black over the old Silver cone. I used zink deck screws that I had laying around because the old plain screws got rusty.

Scramble, your build thread reads like I'm watching a series on the history channel. I have to read the installments in short "marathons" to maintain some continuity.

However, I want to commend you on some strong posting all over the forum in recent weeks. I can't remember all of the threads, but your posts in the "packing for car camping" thread are spot on in many regards (coolers, how to pack, etc). You and I would have been camping buddies if we had run in the same circle.

Scramble, your build thread reads like I'm watching a series on the history channel. I have to read the installments in short "marathons" to maintain some continuity.

However, I want to commend you on some strong posting all over the forum in recent weeks. I can't remember all of the threads, but your posts in the "packing for car camping" thread are spot on in many regards (coolers, how to pack, etc). Thanks Bro, I know more about camping than building a rig or hardcore wheelin'. When my Sister was 18 I was 5 & she took me camping all the time. No campgrounds, State land so "roughing it" no bathrooms or showers etc. This was the early 70's & her friends were all hippie chicks. This is where I saw my first titties & bush! LOL

Me & my Sister were "Overlanding" in 1976! When I was 10 my Sister picked me up on the last day of school & we dove to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to visit our Grandparents. She had a 71 Mercury Capri. We stopped & camped along the way in Shenandoah National Park, VA, the beaches of South Carolina, camped outside of Disney World for 3 days so we could see the whole park & not rush it all in one day. A Capri! We lived out of it for 2 weeks. Dont tell me that a 4Runner is too small! LMAO I never once used the roof rack on my T4R. LOL

When my friends & I turned 18 I got them all into camping. I had to teach them a lot. I remember our first "adult" camping trip. Some of my friends brought suitcases & big pillows from their beds. LOL I got a million stories!

Thanks for the compliment & following my thread from the beginning. Your build was the first one I subscribed to back in 2014. I just enjoyed the story of how you found "The One". I've had the one since new & it's great to see others enjoying what I've known for a long time. I had no idea of the beauty that would come in the following pages of your build. COB's incredible transformation was another one along with Natemob, 4Ripcord & other's. You guys gave me the confidence to do my own work & take on harder trails.
You never know what the future will bring. If my travels bring me to NM we might end up camping or wheelin' together. I know there's great crystal meth down there!:dance::biggrin1:

I've been looking for an e-locker axle housing for a while now. I'm in a few Toyota Northeast FB groups & everything up here is crusty. I don't even bother with junkyards. The only junkyards I deal with are from the Southwest on E-Bay. But anyway, I was cruisin' the T4R "Items for sale" forum & found [MENTION=80933]4x4runner2002[/MENTION] selling a drum to drum housing. He was actually parting out a 2000 Limited. Me & my GF drove the 8hrs to West Virginia on a Sat & picked it up. Here's the only shot I got bringing it back to NY.

I'm on my way to finishing up this rig now with the big 3, 5-speed (factory), e-locker (installed) & S/C (purchased-need to install) . :guitar2:

March - April 2017

I've been checking my axle seals every few days since I had the leak but the new breather and extension has been working. A few days after I got back from picking up the e-locker axle in W.V. I found that the Diff was leaking. WTF? I think the RedLine fluid is thinner or finer than conventional even though the weight is the same. I never had any leaks until I put this stuff in. I thought maybe my housing rusted through but I checked it & it's fine. I tap on it at least once a year & it's still solid due to my anal ways of washing the salt off after every snowstorm.

I find it weird that I drove 16hrs round trip to get a used axle & a few days after I get back it the old one starts leaking. I guess that's called good luck or good timing or lucky timing! LOL

Here's what I first saw.

After further inspection I realized that it was coming from between the housing & 3rd member. The gasket must have disintegrated right there at the bottom.

Rather than drive it & risk running the diff low I stuck her in that garage I bought but haven't used yet. I plan on swapping my stock 4.56 gears into the new 4.30 e-locker carrier & dont want to f*ck them up.

Here she is peaking out from the garage at the beginning of a 17" snowstorm.

Did you try draining out the new redline fluid you recently put in and refill with your usual diff fluid to see if the leaking stopped?

nope, I waited a few months until I did the axle swap. I put in the cheapest gear oil I could find for the 500 mile break in, Peak oil from Pep Boys. I'll have pics on here by the end of the week.

LOL, that axle housing is solid & will be up for sale after sandblasting & paint since both of my T4R's are e-locked now.

Here's how she looks now beeotch. More pics to come soon. Two coats of Eastwood & two coats of VHT chassis paint.

I'm a little lost on how to proceed with this build thread. Basically I had her up on jack stands from July through Oct last year & did a bunch of stuff. I have hundreds of photos & if I go in date order it will be confusing because I had to jump around on different projects....

OK, I guess I answered my own question & just needed to say it out loud or see it written on screen LOL I'll have to go through all of my photos & make sub folders grouping them by project & forget about the dates.

I didn't get started on the truck until July 4th weekend which sucked. I blew a rod through my lawn tractor motor. I picked up another one the following weekend off CL & swapped my deck over. Then I bent a front control arm on the new used tractor because I was treating it like a 4wheeler. LOL I caught a real bad case of Poison Ivy while working on the tractor in the jungle next to my house so May & June weekends were pretty shot for working on the T4R. Like most people say in their builds, "life got in the way", but I'll actually tell you what happened! LOL

For those that dont know I bought the property next to my house that has a big garage on it. My friend John own's a landscaping company that does clean-outs & other odd jobs. He said he'll clean it out & just charge me the dump fee's as long as he can store his Harley & Audi convertible in there for the winters. No problem! It was 6 dumpsters full of junk @ around $300 a pop at the dump. It goes by weight. Imagine if I had to pay his labor?

So here are some pics of me pulling the previous owners boat out of the garage. I got it in the sale.

This whole thing started by wanting to do an e-locker axle housing swap. As I got deeper into it I realized that I had better address the rust issues on the frame, cross-members & under the body. With the axle, springs, shocks & rear links out I had to do it. Figured I might as well pull the bumpers off too. The rear brackets are really bad & the inside of the Shrockworks bumper was staring to rust only after 3 NY winters.

Started with getting the spare out.

Trailer hitch was good for holding up the hitch while I tried to unbolt it. I almost always work alone.

WD 40, the impact & angle grinder were needed & shit got mangled. These bolts were never off before.
