Scrolling through ipod via usb question!

anybody know how to scroll through your ipod via the usb input without it automatically switching to the top song/artist/albumn currently displayed on the screen? i find this really annoying...for example if i want to look for a song and press the down arrow it automatically changes to the top song displayed on the screen.. Please HELP!!! still LOVE the 5 gen by the way! hit 600 miles today!

Yes, it's annoying. If you can read quickly, keep pushing the button every couple seconds. It only changes tracks when you pause over them.

I tried using the iPOD on my iPHONE, via the USB input and no dice. Nothing worked. I guess I'll try my iPOD touch later when I get home. Odd that I saw one model somewhere here with the iPOD USB interface right in front of the gear shift, but on mine its tucked away into the glove box.

My old iPod photo wouldn't work either. The manual states which ipods don't work. I can't remember all the models, but I do remember that ipohones and ipod photos wont work. Kind of lame... I think it's probably Apple's fault and not Toyota's. Anyway, a cool feature (not mentioned in the manual) is that the car plays mp3s (and probably wma's) off a regular USB thumbdrive. It takes longer to read the track names and tag info, but it's better than nothing.

I have used my Ipod touch and iPhone with the USB connector no issues, however if I leave it connected and shut off the vehicle when I restart the truck the stereo will show an error. I have to disconnect the iPod prior to restarting the truck to avoid the error. I have not found away to scroll without the song changing automatically.

did anyone try it over the bluetooth interfact (I know it doesn't charge it if you do) - interested in knowing if it has the same issues. Planning on picking up an ipod touch this week so want to know how well that works.

Mikey. When you use the bluetooth you cant use the stearing wheel controls you have to use your ipod to change songs. And yes you can scroll through your ipod with out the song changing as soon as you stop. If you pick up a new ipod touch you have to go under setting to turn the bluetooth on.

Oh wow talk about safety hazard to be messing with the ipod to change songs. That is pretty stupid. I assume if you are on a playlist it will just keep going so probably not a big deal since my wife won't be messing with it besides hitting play.

A really neat feature of the new Nav is you can put your music on a USB flash drive. Plug it into the usb port and the nav audio recognizes it and decodes it on it's own as music folders(artist),sub folders(albums) and files(songs)and plays them with on screen control.

Try it ,it's a cool feature but I use my trusty and user friendly Creative ZEN X-Fi thru the AUX jack under the NAV.They are so light that a piece of velcro is all it takes to hold it in place. It sounds great and is much better sound quality then the Ipod.I personally use the USB to keep my iphone or Zen charged when needed.Once you go Zen X-Fi and are half way computer literate ,you never go back.It has drag and drop features thru windows based operating systems. In other words you can plug it into your pc and drag and drop or delete music at will and with ease.Love it!!


I have an iphone and the problem with bluetooth(all bluetooth is like this) is it only connects with one thing at a time. I use my iphone to connect bluetooth hands free for the phone instead of the ipod music bluetooth.The iPhone does work great as a hands free phone with on screen touch and/or voice command recognition. The sound is great and people on the other end could'nt even tell it was hands free.

they should make this link sticky. I have a feeling a LOT of people are going to be complaining about that "scrolling". First of all its slow as all shite on the Nav, and if you pause for more than one second it changes songs. I have 1800 songs, and to have to start from A-Z all over, everytime you want to find a song

Also, considering it's a direct USB, it sure is slow!!!!

Bluetooth works via iPhone on my sr5, but have to change music on phone. It's good on random play.

I'd love to see a video of the ipod function. I'll probably get it anyway, but I'd hate to be disappointed in a brand new car if it doesn't function the way I imagine.

Honestly, the best thing about ipod integration is putting it on shuffle, and being able to skip songs I don't want to hear. I think it sounds much better through the USB connector versus the headphone jack which is optimized for headphones, too.

I'm going to swing by the dealer this week and check a few more things out before I order. I'll bring my ipod, ipod cable, and flipHD video camera along to record the ipod function.

Hey guys.......We need to specify which system you are talking about here as some people have NAV systems and some do not with the usb connect. Also which iPod/iPhone?

Also ....just a little heads up on where we might find/search for answers to some of these problems with the usb connect.The NAV system in our 5th Gen 4Runners, for those that have it, is called a Toyota Gen. 6 Nav System and is new for 2010 models.

This same Gen 6 NAV is used on all Toyotas for 2010 that have it as an option and is not specific to the 4Runner so other Toyota forums might have the answers .

Prius,Tundra,Camry and FJ ,to name a few,have big active forums with a probably higher percentage of geeks:nerd:, especially Gen III 2010 Prius, plus they have been out alot longer then our 2010 4Runners.We probably would be better off searching thru them for answers/tips as my dealer, at least, is clueless.

Of course,fill the rest of us in if you find anything!!
