This is completely off the OPs topic but somewhat r/t the gas topic....kinda.

I took a trip to Colorado this weekend. I have family there. I did not partake but only because city councils in the little farm towns I visited won't allow dispensaries yet. And blitzkrieg, my wife and i don't smoke because we don't want to break the law in Texas. Not because we are squeaky clean or anything; I just don't want the embarrassment and job hassles if I were to get arrested visiting a dealer here. We would occasionally if and when they legalize it. So, I'm sure a lot of folks in Colorado are similar and now smoke because it's legal. Just a side. I digress...

Anyway on to the point; I put about 10 tanks of gas in this weekend. For each tank I reset the avg mpg meter. Almost all of them averaged about 17-18mpg. However, one tank (on the way there) stayed at 22mpg or above the whole time. Driving hwy and in town. As soon as I refilled it went back down to 17-18mpg. Do you guys think that that is just an inconsistency of the gauge? Or was it some magic gas I happened upon? I am at about 3000 miles on the odo if that helps. Statistically unlikely that during those 10 fill ups you only received TT gas once. DON'T quote me I don't have any citations to back me up but I highly doubt it gives you 4-5 mpg improvement. Texas777 may know. You could have had the wind to your back or a lack of head wind. Not sure where at in Texas or to where in Colorado, but I make runs to midland and Houston fairly often and always get better mpg leaving CO than returning.

No real way to determine if you filled up, or how many times you filled up with TT gas without a list of stations where you filled up. I can say with a very high level of confidence that TT gas or not, the one tank gas wouldn't deliver an increase in mileage that dramatic.

There are two factors related to the gasoline itself that would immediately impact mileage.

First is use of reformulated (RFG) gasoline. About 30% of gasoline sold in the US. is RFG, which will yield a 1-3% decrease in mileage over conventional gasoline. RFG gasoline is mandated in cities or areas that have bern identified as being high smog in an effort to reduce the same.

The second factor is winter or summer gasoline blends. Summer gasoline yields a ~1.7% higher energy value than winter grades. These factors may deliver a benefit to, or debit your mileage, depending on which gasoline you are referencing, but getting the kind of mileage delta for that one tank vs, the other 9 would likely have more to do with factors such as average speed, terrain, headwinds (or tailwinds), etc.

I would like to find gasoline that gave me 4-5 mpg improvement on a consistent basis though. My readout says 15.8 most of the time. Lots of idling and stop/go here. As for it being your electronics acting up or other reasons, I can't really hazard a guess. Others here may have some thoughts. I've only had my TE for a year, and am not well versed on how accurate the computer's mpg calculations might be on this vehicle.

I was going from Midland/Odessa to around La Junta, Co. Actually when I got the magic gas...(maybe it was full of bong water and sea foam as they mentioned above )...I was in between Amarillo and La Junta.

Thanks. I was pretty surprised by that stretch as I know I was gaining altitude slightly. Taking all of that into consideration, my guess is tailwinds and the fact that I was going through fairly flat grasslands. I have never paid much attention to where I buy my gas and i didn't on this trip either unfortunately. I will now though. Thanks for all the info Texas777.
