seats

I had the problem on my 04 for a while. I was finally fed up with it so i had the dealer look at it when i went in for an oil change. They were great about it and ordered a new seat frame assembly no questions asked and no hassle. They never gave me the 'cannot duplicate' crap.

I got a notice a week later and i took it in. It took them quite a while to replace(like 6 hours) and since then it has been fine, no noise and no movement. They did not have to send it out to an upholstery shop to do the work.

I was actually surprised they were so good about it. Best thing the dealer has done for me yet.

They didnt say anything about it, but i kinda gathered that they have had to do this replacement a few times from the way they acted. If your dealer gives you a hard time about it, try another dealer(if thats an option where you are). Or hound them til they fix it.

On my invoice for the work they call it the Front Seat Frame Assembly(FRAME ASSY, FR SE). In the end it cost me nothing so i was a happy camper.

I am still waiting for my parts to come in. A seat rack assembly and a catalsytic converter.
:bash:

hey guys,

i just bought my 4runner to the stealers regarding my driver seat rocking. they will not fix my problem for me....you know what they said...they were like the seat is to spec. i was like how can it be to spec if my f u ck seat is rocking about 2inchs.

i'm so mad right now...the service ppl at bayridge, Brooklyn toyota are straight up 8ss h0l3s and what should i do now? should i contact ToyotaUSA?

FYI...don't go to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn NY toyota... they have bad service and not friendly people...

Crown heights Bk. Tina is my rep too!!! I sometimes go to Plaza Toyota, but Bayridge Toyota has become like family. My driver seats rocks and pops as if the seat is broken. It's almost like a metal plate in the lumbar support is bending back and fort (spelling) resulting in the popping. The rocking occurs when I drive off or sudden stops. I can feel the seat moving. I have to say it took me a month too get them to order this part. I had it there a month ago. They kept my truck for 2 days, but i also was getting the TSB sulfur issue fixed as well. They took a month to order a converter, then never order the part for the seat. Finally made some noise and Tina said the are ordering a new seat rack for next week. I almost afraid that this rocking and popping will occur again in the near furture. My truck's only 8 months old.:(

for my seat...the inner rear part of the seat feels kind of loose. i guess, my seat is not as bad. but it's the fact that bay ridge toyota did not want to do anything about it. Tina said a rep from toyota USA is coming next week and they are going to show them my problem. WHich i dont understand why would you waste the guys time w. my seat. its not even a big tech issue. all bay ridge toyota need to do it fix it...thatz it...stupid a s s ppl.

Bay ridge toyota replaced my catalsytic converter about a year ago.

My seat will click during a left turn. Not every time, but frequently. I can live with it for now. So I'll wait to the end of the warranty. I'd rather get a new assembly or seat at 36k than 14k.

that's why i want to bring my car to the stealer now...because my warranty is up in 6 months. i want to make sure all the ticks are out before my warranty is done.

Well my chairs really gives the real meaning of playing musical chairs. I might meet with that rep next week at Bay Ridge Toyota if I can. Good luck :(

Finally got my truck back with a new driver seat rack assembly. All that popping and rocking is gone. I do fear this chair may do this also in the near future. It took me 3 visits to Bay ridge Toyota to get the seat and the (sulfur smell) converter replace.

It appears that this seat popping and rocking is specific to the T4R Sport editions. I rarely see SR5 and Limited owners complaining of this problem. This could be explain by the Sport editions having the special seat fabrics.

Limiteds have power seats.

I think that's a major difference because I had a 03 v6 limited with power seats never had any problems. Now that I have the sport model, love the seats but pops and rocks within 6 months. :bash:

My '04 sport also has the popping sound coming from it. I'm outside the factory warranty 39K, but do have a 75K 5year extended warranty.

My local dealer wants 90 bucks just to inspect the seat, and then, if they feel its a defect, they'll do it under warranty.

The front portion of my seat wobbles a lot if you shake it up and down. I know others have said the back portion makes noises, but can someone confirm rattling coming from the leading edge of their seat?

The popping noise does come from somewhere in the middle of the back when breaking.

I found my seat has a cracked tube in the frame.

My seat one day started to have more up and down rock as described. The noise is so bad I have to turn up the radio to deal with it. I looked under the seat and to my shock I found the problem. On the bottom of the seat in the back there is a tube that goes accross the seat laying on top of the tracks. My T4R is a 2003 so the seat has a manual crank lever that you can use to raise and lower the seat cushion angle. (clear as mud?) Well this tube has a clean break all the way through it near the end. It is right at the weld and looks like it got to hot and caused the pipe to fail. I called the dealer and they said $450 to replace and another $140 in labor.
I called Toyota and they said its not covered.

You can view this from behind the drivers seat looking under it.

I suggest everyone take a look and see if that pipe is broke.

Im taking it in to the dealer to get the written cost and then Im taking the bull by the horns on this.

Im going to take on the big YOTA and see what happens.

Damit I still love my 4Runner!

Says lots!

Not covered???? Are you still in your warranty period?

Crap,

Toyota's Extra Care Gold doesn't cover the seat track assembly. (it's included in the platinum) I'm currently outside of the 36K miles and this may be an uphill battle.

My only out will be to argue that when my seatbelt was broken, they had to take the drivers seat out to work on the inside of the 4runner (I think this happened at 6K miles).
I'll try to pin the problem to them taking the seat out...

Hopefully, someone on this board can remedy the situation before I go in for my next free oil change.

I guess I'm only ranting because today was the first time I really studied the sales receipt. It appears my pops got screwed by the dealer for some unnecessary items. i.e. simonize, road hazard and the extra care warranty...

I don't mind that he got the LoJack, but after reading the terms and conditions, even the LoJack needs servicing every two years.

Ya can't win

i started noticing the popping sound a couple of days ago. it only happens once or twice so far when i make a hard turn. does anyone with an 06 have this problem? does it get worse if you don't get it fixed?
