Here are pics of two filters both of my trucks had less than 25,000 miles on them the brown colored filter is 2 years older and lived in a hotter environment. The darker one came out of my Runner both of these trucks are garage kept day and night. Any way its easy to see what a couple of years will do to these and some added hot weather. As posted above this is just a tad bit of preventative maintenance the real problem is the valves. My Taco is lucky enough that with some cash I can bypass the secondary pump and valves with no codes. I am hoping OVT will come out with a delete tune for the 4runner since we are next on their tuning agenda but I will keep my fingers crossed.

I've seen how these sort of foam filters degrade in radio controlled nitro engines. Ordered my replacement filter today!
On the next day, the Amazon seller cancelled the order because it was out of stock ETA unknown!

My only concern with this would be whether the foam filter was designed to be better at filtering silicone, which kills oxygen sensors. Probably a non-issue in most areas?

Got my filter in, 5 min install. I saved the parts that came off. That old filter does seem cheap. The pump is a little louder but not much.

Where is this OEM foam filter? Do I need to open the injection body to remove it? If so, 4 torx screws around and one in the middle? My inlet cap had no foam in it:

just 1 screw in the middle. and it'll lift open. foam is in there.

Update: Got mine yesterday.
Installed without any issues.

Same here. Took only 5 min to install.

Wish I would of known about this issue as my AIP went out right after my 3/36 warranty expired with my 15' 4R having less than 20k miles. Granted it was water related from monsoon rains but needless to say I was livid after it cost about a grand to replace from Toyota :Cry:

I cant believe Toyota put foam element in there ala weed eater filter. Even my 18 year old mower uses proper filter. Thanks for finding and posting this.
