so Ive been trying to get ready for the lake this year and would like some ideas of awnings easy to set up, I have the factory roof rack and would like to see pics of mounting points also, I've come across a few on the boards at one point but would like to see more

There arent too many.. and the ones that have been made are pretty much copying antman's build.

I have one of these. Not home made but cheap enough and attaches to factory roof rack, easily stored in its bag.

Tarp and whatever sticks I can find. Sometimes a rock or two but that makes it awfully short.

I actually ordered some parts this week to make mine.
- 1000 Denier UV coated 8x6 tarp $40 shipped
- Bimini Marine Eye Ends

From Lowes
- 4x Lowes painter aluminum poles that extends from 4-8ft
- 2x 10ft EMT pipes that I'll cut down to size
- random bolts, washers, pipe straps, etc.

I have 550 Paracord that I'll use as tie down rope. We'll see how it goes, I have the Lowes parts and the online tarp and bimini ends should be here next week.

Again, this is not home made, and I'm a HUGE fan of home made, but I've been using this once a year for 5 yrs and I love it!

Its a bit of an art form, but even without buying extra poles and stakes, there are endless ways to deploy them. We set one up in a steady 30-40 mph wind and it was sketch and a bit dangerous but once we got it anchored, it was a legitimate storm shelter.

add a heat source like a propane heater and the radiant heat off these will have you in awe. I really dig the ARB awening but for the price of one of those you could have several of these, + they are at home as a stand alone unit.
