Shrockworks delivery disappointment - how's NFab?

I have to agree with smallfry. I currently have a SW plate bumper that I ordered last month. I knew going in that the lead time for said bumper was around 4 months. So in conclusion..... 3 months left! :eyebrows:

Anybody that takes 15 weeks to get a simple set of sliders out the door is an absolute joke.....and please dont bore me with the "oh, their artist" or the "they're the most wonderful thing you've ever seen" happy horse shat...its s set of f'in sliders for Christ's sake....

Might make a decent product, but so do plenty of other people, that would do custom in half that time. Its poor business, although there doesnt seem to be a shortage of suckers standing in line to chuck money at them.

If you bought a house and planned on owning it for 30 years, would you wait 5 years for the contractor to show up and put an addition on????

Doubtful.

As other people have already mentioned, n-fabs are not sliders. I have the N-Fabs on right now; I scraped them coming off a curb the other day and had a mini-heart attack (was worried they'd get pushed up into the rockers). If you are looking for sliders, N-Fabs are not for you.

Having said that, I believe your intial question was about delivery times. My N-fabs were delivered to my buddy's house in the 3-4 days range. Once again, N-fabs wont really do anything to protect your truck.

First, I have no affiliation with Shrockworks, aside from the group buy that I organized with Mark a few months back. Since then, there has been a lot of negative talk about them around here. In my experience and research (across multiple vehicle boards) I've found 2 things to be true about SW, great products and long lead time.

@OP, I understand you're upset. Whenever I order something online, I want it delivered yesterday because (in addition to standard delivery time) I already wanted it for a long time leading up to the day I finally ordered it. That said, if I ever order products from SW and they tell me it'll be 10 weeks I'll assume that means 15 weeks.
I guess because I've worked for small companies in the past, I 'm more patient with hold-ups than others. That said, if they told me 12 weeks, I would email them at 12 wks and 1 day asking for an update. If I didn't get a response, I'd email them again before finally calling them and trying to escalate the situation to someone that can expedite the process.

If you don't bother to research the company or take charge of the scenario once it goes sour I don't think you have no room to complain. But, that's just my opinion.

Just my opinion, but 12 weeks for sliders is ridiculous. If you can't fab and ship sliders in less than 3-4 weeks you need to figure out how to do it faster. All these parts are made from a jig. Can't take more than a day to weld a bumper, much less a set of sliders.

1) If it only takes a day to weld a bumper, why not make one yourself? Sounds like it'd be pretty lucrative.

2) The sliders aren't made from a jig.

3) If sliders for one specific model year of 4Runner was the only thing they made, then I agree. But they make a large variety of parts for a large variety of makes, models and years. They are a small shop, and there's only so many parts they can produce at once. If you think you can do better, then open up your own shop. It sounds like you'd make a killing with your great ideas.

Let's wrap this one up....

Ok, now that i lit a fire under the team, I will indeed zip it and resume my waiting. No one can say that this group isnt passionate in their opinions. I dig it.

I keep seeing more and more of these posts lately and it's getting tiring seeing. Yes the wait is long, yes the lead times may be off, but that is something you should have educated yourself on prior to purchasing.

Do your freaking research before ordering anything and know what your getting into.

Whaa? So SW gets a pass because the specialist forums are full of complaints? :wtf:

Since when is it the customer's fault for not knowing that a vendor consistently provides inaccurate lead times? That is completely bogus. SW's word on the deal should be all a customer needs. A good vendor provides quality service in conjunction with a quality product. Knowingly providing an inaccurate lead time is a poor business practice, no matter how good the product.

1. I will be making my own bumper. Won't be done in a day, but certainly won't take 6 months.

2. If they don't build from a jig, how do they get them the same everytime? That's the first thing they would have done after getting what they wanted. The only way they could build sliders or bumpers with no jigs is to have the physical vehicle there and install directly. There is no way to get the same repeatable results without a jig.

3. So how do companies like 4x Innovations, ODL, All Pro, Trail Gear, Bud Built, Sonoran Steel, and many others turn around products so much faster? I know Bud Built and Sonoran Steel are 1 maybe 2 man operations. You think they would be ok with a 12+ week delivery time of a set of sliders?

I think SW makes a great looking front bumper, in fact probably the nicest plate bumper I've seen. However, I wouldn't order from them just based on the lead time. Even if everybody loved what they got, and got it when they were promised the first time, it still wouldn't be worth it to me. I know that being a small company sucks, and things take longer.

I just looked at their 5th Gen sliders and see nothing special about them. They look very basic and have a max of 11 welded joints. So 1 week to weld each joint, plus a week for powder coat, plus another for delivery. Now I understand why it takes them so long. Those must be some freaking amazing welds.

I'm on week 15 waiting for a set of Shrockworks sliders. By contrast, Toyota built an entire sport utility vehicle to my specifications IN JAPAN and got it to me in less time. (Both companies promised 12 week delivery. One exceeded expectations; one not so much)
While I understand your frustration, comparing a company like Shrockworks to Toyota is a bit ridiculous. First, they are pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to operations and economies of scale. Second, "to your specifications"? That's a bit amusing to say the least. How much input do we really have when we "custom order" a 4Runner. Sure, we may choose third-row seats or something, but it's not like we're custom designing a bumper, engine, or transmission.

LOL at this rate you will have a TRD supercharger for your 4Runner before you see your order from SW...

OP you aren't out of line at all... great products do take time, but there is a limit to how much time should be given before it's more than the product is worth.

If SW products are that great and the demand is so high, why wouldn't they hire some competent staff and grow their business?

That is indeed a fair question. I would love to see the bumper I just ordered from them arrive earlier than expected.

You forgot to allow the 20 weeks working on existing orders before they get to your order. That's what a backlog is, other orders they are have already taken and have to be done before yours.

If you don't like it, don't order from them. I visited their shop. They're not perfect, but they're cranking out parts by the truckload (literally, a truck came in twice while I was there to cart off finished units for powder coating and drop off freshly powder coated products ready to be shipped). You're not going to accomplish anything but aggravating yourself by badmouthing them.

In talking to one of their designers, I got the impression that they'd love to get ahead of the game and have inventory just lying around waiting to go, but there is enough demand for their products that they can't get ahead. That means you have to wait 12 weeks or more before they can make sliders. That doesn't mean it takes 12 weeks to make sliders.

Sorry but at this point if you order SW stuff and don't know this reputation you did a really crappy job of researching. Their stuff is great, but everyone who actually researches before they buy know its going to take a long time.

If a company could just mass produce this stuff with the same quality don't you think that deezee or Westin would be making these buy now?

If they don't want to be badmouthed perhaps they should stop taking orders till they can get caught up, do a better job of keep customers waiting up to date on when the product will be done and then get it done by that time, or add more staff as they will forever have this problem if the product is good. I assume they are in business to make money, and so perhaps being 100 orders down is a sign it's time to expand.

Their products aren't cheap, and the customer absolutely has the right to get frustrated when they get strung along over and over...

So you need to send your money and shut your mouth, and when it's done it's done... how long would you wait a good restaurant for food, 4 hours for your dish to arrive? What if it was a great dish when it finally got to your table? They aren't massed produced because the demand isn't that high, though apparently it's alot higher than what SW can currently handle.
