Snowboard rack recommendations

Does anyone have a recommendation on what snowboard rack to use? I have a 2011 4Runner SR5 and would like to pile at least 4 snowboards on there and is easy to remove (I park in a low clearance parking garage for work). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

i use a yakima fatcat 6.

mounts up to the factory cross bars nicely and holds 4 snowboards easy.

Hey folks. I am in the boat. I need a good roof rack attachment for skis and snowboards. I had a thule a few years ago...but I gave up because it was too loud when it was empty on the highway. I drive 2-3 hours each way on the winds to go skiing. That whole times its empty. How are the Fat Cat and Powderhound when it comes to noise? Is one quieter than the other? Is there anything else out there I should consider? Right now I got my gear inside but it scratches up my interior over time.

RE: Noise... when I had the Powderhounds on my Jeep I would fold them down flat, parallel to the roof, during the week when I wasn't using them. It seemed to reduce the noise/drag a little bit.

i cannot hear a thing from my fat cat 6 and i've taken in on a 1000km trip.

I have yakima swingdaddy and you can get a hitchski snowboard/ski attachment for that. Names (and price) aside, it meets the specs, and I have been pleased with mine. It hooks to the trailer hitch, swings out of the way to get to the trunk, and for some strange reason it has two bottle openers integrated. :beer:

If you carry bikes too, the thule revolver with the ski attachment is great. Like the swingdaddy mentioned above it is a little more costly, but is also more versatile.Highly suggest taking a look at it.

+1 on the Fatcat 6. In addition to being lower profile than the Big Powderhound (which I had on my old 3rd Gen and mounted on my 2010 TE for a week), the Fatcat is way, way less noisy when you don't have snowboards/skis in the rack. Plus, you can "lay them back" for better clearance similar to what Ryan_S mentioned for his Powderhounds (assuming that you're running Yakima round bars and not factory crossbars).

What's the clearance in your "low clearance" parking garage?

Unless you want to go with a hitch rack (which would definitely be easy to remove between trips to the mountain), I don't know of a roof mount option that is lower profile than the Fatcat 6.

In their normal configuration (i.e. upright) the Fatcat is quieter and lower profile than the Powderhound. However when you fold the Powderhound back 90 degrees when it's empty it is both lower profile and quieter than the Fatcat.

I've had the Powderhound for a number of years and am a big fan. However I had to upgrade to the Fatcat this year so that my truck could still fit in my work garage with it loaded up with skis.
