I know that..... However I also know my TRDOR does not have many things that the tacoma TRDOR can have, LED DRLS, auto headlights, parking sensors, dual climate control, Push to start and I could go on further. It feels dated and I can almost guarantee these things will be addressed in a redesign for the trim I chose. The point I was trying to make is that I think 4.0 was worth it over those options that might come when paired with a 3.5l Hence my purchase of a 4runner over a tacoma TRDOR

I'm with you on the 4.0, and it was part of the reason I went 4Runner vs a Tacoma. The 4.0 is a well-understood engine. It's been in use for ages and we know what he have in it.

I can live without the foofy auto-headlights and whatnot.

I can't live with a sketchy motor (and as a prior 2008 JK owner, I know what a sketchy motor looks like.... never again.)

Just go out and test drive the 3.5 Taco and let us know what you think in comparison lol. I was 100% for new TRDOR Taco until I test drove it. Now I am on this forum instead of tacomaworld HA! Yea I was surprised that there was no auto headlight feature or push start for a 40k+ vehicle but I bought the 4 Runner to be solid and reliable and not worry about it so I guess give and take. The great thing is if the 6G comes out and everything is legit, everyone can just trade up and not lose so much money!

So true, new to the 4runner world, got mine last October and I've already spent 6K on making it mine and still many more things on my list.

As someone who went from a 3rd gen to a 5th gen, just do it. The 5th gen is a bigger, more comfortable, more updated version of the 3rd gen. I'm a big fan of buying one of the last year models of a generation since the drive train is tried and true. If they did come out with a completely redesigned 4runner I would wanna wait a year or 2 to work all the bugs out anyways. You will love it.

What he said. I upgraded from an 01 to a 2017 Off Road. No regrets. Well....maybe one so far....in that, I wish they would have used solid color plastic on the interior trim pieces. The black scratches easily and you can see the lighter color underneath. Not very durable.

I'm not big on the interior trim either. Wonder if there is a transparent product that can be applied over it (like shrink wrap) that would offer at least some protection.

I like my 5th gen but I wish it had a V8 option. When towing it's a pain. I know it's not an ideal tow vehicle but I tow every now and then about 5k fully loaded it takes awhile to get moving especially up hills.
