sonar delete

i have a Canadian 2011 4runner limited and it has no sonar ..
went to the dealer and the showed us on the original paper work that it is deleted ... why ??

he said because we have a back up camera ... don't other 4runners with back up cameras have the sonar ???

not a big deal but seems kinda weird when you buy the Cadillac of the 4runner you get it deleted ??

My Canadian Limited has no sonar. It is not, and never has been part of the Canadian Limited package. Whatever documentation you have that indicates that the sonar was 'removed' is BS because it was never installed.

The back-up camera works much better than sonar anyway.

sorry for the misunderstanding ...

on the paper work that comes with the 4runner
similar to the window sticker ..
looks like kinda a "build" sheet

just lists the options and by the back up camera option is says "sonar delete"
so i realize it never came with it ..

it is just weird in the owners manual it has instructions on it and usually if your vehicle doesn't have it says something like
"not available on Canadian edition "

In the US the only version that has sonar is the SR5, it is N/A on the TE or LE. Most likely because the TE & LE come std with the mirror video and as an option the big nav screen video. The SR5 does not come std with any kind of rearview camera, but it is optional, so they just seem to equip all SR5's with sonar, regardless of option packages.

It sort of is available.... the base SR5 has sonar. The upgrade SR5 package, and the TE and limited (without Nav) a,, have the backup camera with the image displayed in a section of the rear-view mirror.

The Limited edition with Nav has the image displayed on the nav head-unit.

I guess Toyota has decided to give a little advantage to SR5 over other models: ) SR5 Upgrade package has camera and sonar.
