Sonoran Steel lift owners - 1.2 or 1.2A?

Just make sure you get the adjustable bilstiens for the front.

As far as the rear goes I dont think it makes much of a difference.

Dont get the 7.2, go with the 1.2 (x) system.

I have 1.2 and 31.5" (265x75x16) and couldn't be happier.

The 1.2 only adds 2-2.5" in front and 3" in the rear (after settling).

I have lots of pics in my build thread if you want to know what it will look like with a 31.5" tire.

Don't get the 7.2 unless you are a soccer mom.

:P

Brian, not sure why you think the 7.2 is for soccer moms, but I think you are correct in that your truck looks bad azz with 265/75/16 & 1.2(X)...:)

Basically same lift systems except the 7.2 has OME Coils and Bilsteins, and the 1.2A has LC Coils and Tokico's. My logic was thinking the LC Coils would lift "a little" too much.

Either system = WINNER, just want it to be perfect for my needs.

The Front is the same for both systems 1.2 & 7.2:
Front:
(1)-Toyota Progressive TRD Front Coil: Driver/Left Side
(1)-Toyota Progressive TRD Front Coil: Passenger/Right Side
(2)-Toyota Stover Nuts
(2)-Toyota Upper Shock Bushings
(2)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Polyurethane Top Plate Retainers
(2)-Bilstein 5100 Series Height Adjustable Nickel Plated Heavy Duty Front Shocks
(2)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Front Differential Drop Spacers

The Rears are different as follows:
System 7.2:
Rear:
(2)-ARB/Old Man Emu 890X (New) Rear Coils
(2)-ARB/Old Man Emu 10MM Trim Packers
(2)-Bilstein 5100 Series Nickel Plated Shocks

System 1.2A:
Rear:
(2)-Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser Coils
(2)-Genuine Toyota Tokico Black Rear Shocks & Supporting Hardware

Both Rear systems share the following components:
(2)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Polyurethane Shock Bushings
(1)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Adjustable Trac/PanHard Bar
(2)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Extended Bump Stop Adapters with
(2)-Daystar "Competition Style" Bump Stops
(1)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Braided Stainless Steel Extended Brake Line
(1)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Parking/Emergency Brake Bracket

Thanks for all the continued feedback. Lift has been delayed (temporarily), as I have prioritized my husband/fatherly duties and am landscaping our backyard for the family. Not cheap. But, it's coming along...:)

That's OK, Daddy will get his lift. Maybe for my b-day in June...hmmm.

I guess i was confused about the 7.2; i thought it was the one with only 1.5" of lift.

Btw at first glance I assumed that grass plot was an outdoor showroom spot to park your 4Runner! (I'm sure the wife would love that)

:driving:

I talked to Steve while he was welding on my sliders, but we only discussed the 1.2A.

I pretty much decided on 1.2A, but am re-considering system 7.2.

I'm wondering if the lift is too much for 265/75/16 size tires. I just bought new tires when I got the truck, and don't want to be tire shopping because the wheels "look small". On the other hand, will the lift be too small when I'm shopping for new tires in the future? Chicken or the egg situation I guess...HA!

I get it. The thought of the 1.2 or 1.2A is cool, but decided to go with the 3.0. The 3.0 is a better fit for our needs. Not to mention not "needing" / wanting new tires. I called Steve today, super nice guy, and he's going to install sometime next week. Woo hoo, I am so psyched :)
Can't wait to see yours with the 1.2A!

Brian, I like the way you think. But, probably would be better to stage the truck "in flex" on some boulders or something...ha.

So, you do not want ANY lift? Not sure how much "the bags" and installation cost, but I think the 1.2A or 7.2 systems would have solved your "sag" concerns. Anyways, looking forward to your feedback when you get it all together.

I wanna cry, everybody is getting new suspension except me...:( I need to remember...

I have the 1.2A. I like it. Its a good firm ride, Never a question in my mind how the truck is going to respond to bumps, turns or weight. for what its worth, the 1.2A did an outstanding job pulling a 3,000lb load over 12 hours. literally no sag. The only problem is even with the 1 inch diff drop I keep breaking CV boots. Not even offroading. I've had the lift for 5 and a half months, gone thru 3 CV boots. I've since given up on changing CV's till I get a solution. Anyone else experience this?

bags are unreliable, prone to damage, high cost and maintenance, dont do well offroad or on road for that matter, its pretty much for show.

What, what and what??? I'm going to call BS on all of those claims.

I've had my 1.2 for under a year and haven't torn one yet.

when was the last time you saw a off road competition truck riding on freaking air bags?

Why would anyone put bags in an "off road competition truck" ?

We're not talking competitive rock crawling here. Air bags increase load carrying capability. If you load up the cargo area or pull a trailer which is tongue-heavy, bags reduce/prevent the back end from squatting down.

You can get a complete bag kit for under $100 for stock springs, SS sells his kit for the longer springs found in the 1.2/1.2a lift for $150. There is no maintenance aside from adjusting the pressure, if you want to. Buy Firestone bags if you want them to last. Lastly, they do reduce sway on-road by "stiffening" the springs up.

When was the last time you saw any large truck that regularity pulls a trailer or carries large loads without airbags? I'm thinking never.

oh you are talking about helper bags, sorry i thought you were talking about air ride kit. my apology.

@AZ4FNER-Ya I decided to go with the System 3.0. From what I understand from Soy's thread, I will gain an 1" and she will measure 36" on all four corners. She is my daily driver and we decided to keep her "stock" like GiGi had her :) So easy and fun to mod anything and everything, had to chill and remember that's why I have the TJ.
Steve is going to install for $400, including installing the AIR LIFT 60743 1000 Series Rear Air Spring Kit that I just ordered on Amazon.com. So at the end of the day we'll have $690 + 400 + 87 invested and have a just like new ride AND be able to load her down AND tow with no worries.
I am so excited....yes, be patient, your backyard looks awesome :thumb3:

Thanks, I still have like 20 plants/shrubs to put in the ground and +10 tons of rock to spread. Started with 15 ton. Did everything myself except had the curbing poured around the grass patch. This is all new stuff to me...:)

I've got my "fire pit" almost finished, but I want to build my own 8 x 12' shed and build a "built in" BBQ.

It's been fun/challenging, but I WANT MY LIFT...:)

I went with the 1.2, and love it. With your application I would probably say the 1.2 would be a good option. However, I do have a lot of weight in the back right now (lots of recovery equipment, 1st gen roll bar, and CBI bumper with swing away for full sized sparae). End result of all that weight is that the back end is now level or even slightly lower than the front. I am researching options for leveling it back out. I liked the rake of the 1.2 when it was initially installed, and love the feel of the Bilsteins in the rear.

Thats my $0.02

FWIW: my truck came with Firestone airbags. Both were blown when I tried to use them. The air connection to the airbag had separated. I junked them when I upgraded my springs with OME 890. Btw I've gone from 890 to LC8s to OME 861.

I have a stock rear bumper, but when loaded for camping, both the 890s and LC8s would sag too much. The. 861s hold a hitch mounted dirt bike pretty well too.

Hey Guys -

I'm new at this, so forgive my ignorance...:bash:

I wanted to put together a hybrid system similar to what JayRolla did, but am not comfortable putting everything on myself unless I understand what the parts are for/why I may need them.

I started looking at the SS Basic Kit and moved through the 7.2 and the 1.2 to try to understand what the individual parts are for. I also read the main thread on Lift Information and FAQ's.

That being said, for the front of the lift, it doesn't appear that there are too many differences between the Basic and the 1.2 that I can see.

I was wondering if you guys know what these parts are included for and why I may need them:

Front:
(2)-Sonoran Steel Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Polyurethane Top Plate Retainers
(2)-Toyota Stover Nuts
(2)-Toyota Upper Shock Bushings
(4)-Toyota Bushings
(2)-Toyota M10 Stover Nuts

Appreciate the knowledge transfer!!

I cant find the 1.2A online. I am looking at the SS kits too. Has anyone heard, or have any experience with the 1.3?
