Sp8Ball’s Mod Thread (Stealing Other Poster’s Ideas Since Mid-2010)

Allow me to set the scene...

I'm changing my son's diaper. His nursery is upstairs in our townhome, overlooking the driveway. My wife has - 10 seconds earlier - said she is going to go downtown to work on her homework assignment.

I suddenly hear the distinct "beep-beep" of a Toyota being unlocked, and the opening of my front door. (every homeowner knows what THEIR front door sounds like when being opened, right?) I look outside, and the driveway is aglow in the glorious bluish-white glow of LED puddle lamps.

She is checking my work!

Baby drops the pacifier, so I have to go tend to him and I don't get to see the interaction between wife and T4R. But I heard the engine start...

She comes back inside, comes upstairs, and says..."I saw your new lights."

I asked, "Really? What did you think?"

She tells me, "they look good."

(PAUSE)

"And you're a dork. What are you? 16?"

My response, "but they look good, right?"

She nods.:bravo:

My streak remains intact - all mods approved and "liked" by the wife after installation is complete! Whoo-hoo!

(Of course, you have no idea what I'm talking about until I post the write-up and pics. In the business, we call this a "teaser".)

So thrilled I met Antman tonight, and he by way of connection...I read your thread. Awesome, awesome, awesome, is all I can say. Cannot wait for the backup camera over-ride switch install.

You guys rock, I married out of my league as well. Same problem, nerdy mods, including roof top tent, refrigerator, dual battery system (to power CPAP when camping and run fridge - capital NERD - think Darth Vader mask in the Bigfoot region).

Surprise honey, I bought a new BMW motorcycle today!! I know we have a kid going off to college, but.....wow, really thought I was going to get divorced out of my league that day.

Sorry losers, no pictures of my Studette either!!

Status Update - Friday, April 15th

OK -

Antman and I got a late start today (my fault, I was babysitting the 6-week old while the wife ran an errand), and then I had to run to my son's baseball practice. (he was awesome, if you were wondering)

I had hoped to do a couple of lighting mods and maybe get the backup camera mod done.

We got ONE lighting mod done. But it is "muy awesome".:reddance:

Pics/writeup to follow, depending on cooperation received from baby.

And we anticipate that the backup camera switch won't take that much time, based on the "lessons learned" by Antman when he did his.

And I paid my taxes today. Fun. I'm sure it was handled in such a delicate manner that it will go a long way towards lowering the national debt.

I just realized - you brought the vaunted door handles- even pointed out the box- and in my Mod-Craze, I didn't even look at them...doh!!!!:redbrick:Sorry, man.

Maybe your wife is really just using the 'dork' to get the T4R to look just like SHE wants it to? :whipping2

You do realize that at some point in time you're gonna have to post a pic of your wife sitting behind the wheel and/or driving the T4R if you're 'street cred' is to stay intact, don't you? :shrug:

My Texas equivalent! I bought a motorcycle last summer...against her wishes.

And then she found out we were pregnant 3 weeks later.

No! LOL. I asked him to bring the handles to our mod session and then forgot all about them. Sp8ball even said "and there's the box" and I was like "uh huh" lets run that wiring. Guess i was in the zone. Felt like a jerk, that's all.

This thread is very entertaining and well composed, however, please no more teaser posts. With a baby who is only weeks old, kid's sporting events, work and a wife, there is no telling when you'll find time to finally post the write-ups and pictures (and frankly I'm not sure how you have energy for all of it). I'm looking forward to seeing your new light mod as I have taken your lead with the other led mods that you have posted on my own truck. Keep up all the great work and keep the posts coming.

Yeah - that's mostly a function of me being so excited that I actually did something that I want to tell you guys...and then reality hits me and I don't have time to write it up.

This next write-up (for the mod we did Friday) is going to have a lot of pictures (like the Toytec Spacer install), so it's taking me a while to lay it all out to post it correctly. On top of that, it was "baby weekend from hell" so I tried to "man up" and take the burden off the wife...resulting in my own exhaustion and grumpy mood.

THEN - after all that - I decided to stay up until 1am last night (this morning?) looking up values for my Star Wars collection, which I'll be unloading this week (hopefully). I have set up a spreadsheet to run 4 different price models based on the reliability of where I get the prices from...and they're all trending to show my collection is worth over $2k (and I'm still entering stuff!).

Yes, I'm a dork. It's EMBARRASSING that I have that many toys in my basement. But that's going to fund my next couple of mods!

Anyway...the write-up for Friday's lighting mod is about halfway complete, but I left the most mature version on my computer at work (grrrr...).

This afternoon, Antman and I knocked out the Rearview Camera Switch mod. Pretty simple to do (since he had already done it and figured out the thing!), and we took LOTS of detailed pics to walk you guys through it. That will involve another detailed, pic-heavy set of postings.

Look for both of them to be on the site tomorrow, and to look a lot like the Toytec spacer write-up, where the pics tell most of the story.

I think you'll like them!

Next in the queue will be the color-matched door handles going on, and the pencil-eraser-sized LEDs for the interior door handles...

oh man. I've got dropbox. It's legit. 2GB is free, and it syncs data almost in real time across windows, mac, iPhones. It's ridiculous, and free.

I've been using it to share docs with my dad down in florida. We use it all the time. It's insane.
