Spark/Timing good, new motor won't fire!

I got a new remaned motor installed today and it won't fire. Turns over just fine, the timing seems to be right on, we're getting a spark but it just won't fire. Even tried starting fluid in the intake and it still didn't fire. I'm thinking it could be something with the fuel injectors- how would I go about diagnosing the EFI system? Is there some little switch that would be keeping it from operating? What about the valves? Seems like it would run poorly but still fire up if the valve were not adjusted correctly. Thanks for any input or ideas.

Maybe I missed something but what year and engine do you have? That seems like a good starting point. (no pun intended)

yeah I just realized I forgot to say it's a 22re motor on an 88 4runner

I have to agree with you about it being fuel related as it would at least pop or fire back through the intake if it was out of time. It's kind of funny that it didn't do anything on the starting fluid. Are you certain the throttle butterfly is opening cause that should have done something.

Have someone listen back at the fuel tank for the fuel pump while you turn on the key. If it isn't running I have read that there is something about the cold start system that won't let the pump run. Check the connectors around the air intake.

ok so I'm an idiot, timing was spot on... but 180 degrees off. We assumed the motor came from the factory at TDC but it was TDC of the exhaust stroke. Motor's running great now
