The truck lag is not reduced. It does not make electricity flow faster. If anything, it adds lag since it has an extra computer to go through (would be a microscopic amount).
That all being said, they do make it feel better, nicer drivability. It's just alot of money to pay for it.
It does not bypass it. It does not modify the stock ecu in any way. The truck doesn't even know that sprint booster is installed.It's not pushing harder, but changing the curve.its all drive by wire stuff. The actual timing of the computer delay is in nanoseconds. You wouldn't notice 50 more pieces of electronics in there.
The stock ECU dampens the throttle response to keep your mpg up. Sprintbooster just bypasses it and inserts its own.
As far as the ecu is concerned, you are just pushing the gas pedal like normal
Here’s an old technical white paper (Sprint Booster A technical white paper by Dick Bipes September 2007) that evaluates the function and performance of the unit. It's from 2007 but it still seems valid, even though the design has been tweaked over the years.
Here's the paper's conclusion:
"The Sprint Booster is a simple amplifier that multiplies the accelerator pedal sensor signal, making the accelerator pedal more sensitive. It does not eliminate any significant delay in throttle response, nor does it greatly improve acceleration figures. It does not change the adaptive throttle control programming of electronic throttle control vehicles. It does change pedal “feel”. This change in feel is interpreted by some as improved throttle response, acceleration, and a change in adaptive throttle control programming. Considering what it actually does, it is expensive. '
I agree. Though I don't think it is directly Toyota fault. This is all because of the EPA. They need to fall I to strict mpg guidelinesYes that makes sense, the pedal is an input (sensor) to the ECU. It's most likely PWM and increases the rate or lengthens the pulses.
Either way Toyota is lame for de-tuning and engine that has so much more potential.
