SR5 vanity mirrors

I just purchased a 2003 4Runner SR5 for my wife. She loves it (I do too) but one curious thing - there are no mirrors on the sun visors! The brochure indicates that there are. Then the other day at work, I say another SR5 and look in, and lo and behold, there were the mirrors (with sliding covers) on the sun visors.

What gives? My wife wants here mirrors....

I also have a 2003 SR5 and it has the lighter vanity mirrors on each side.I don't know if they are standard or not, its not listed on the window MSRP list. You may need to check into it futher, they may have screwed up.

My 2003 SR5 4Runner didn't come with them either and I found out that they all are supposed to come with vanity mirrors on both side and due to Toyota error, some SR5 weren't installed with one.

From a tip on 4runner solutions,
I call (800) 331-4331 (Toyota customer service) and they confirmed that and promised to ship them out to my dealer and they will install them for free (around May). They also sent me a check for $10 for the inconvenience.

So for those who didn't get them, go ahead and call.

Thanks for the info....I called and they are sending me ten dollars and will have the dealership install the mirrors when they come in from Japan...which he said would be in "June". I don't know why it takes so long....

Not for me

Hmm.. seems that Toyota must have gotten smart and decided to stop giving out the free vanity mirrors. Just got off the phone with the 800 number and they denied that the vanity mirrors should have been on my SR5..... hmm..??

Call em Back!

MountainDew03,

Call them back with the following info....

1. The official 2003 4Runner brochure lists "visor vanity mirrors" as STANDARD EQUIPMENT on the SR5 - this is a FACT!!!!

2. Tell them that other who have had the same problem are getting them resolved.

3. Ask them "WHO could POSSIBLY conceive of a $30,000 vehicle of Toyota's supposedly high value NOT having a lousy $5.00 worth of vanity mirrors, when dozens of under $15,000 vehicles, including some of the cheapest from Korea, HAVE them?!?!?!!?

Hey RR, thanks for that bit of info. I never had the brochure so I didn't know they put it in print. They are trying to jack me around and I'll let them know that I dug up my brochure and sure enough it says standard equipment for the vanity mirrors.

Thanks again for the info!

fyi:

the brochure can be wrong at time and they have the legal right to make amendments/changes to the vehicle w/o notice. Therefore technically they can say that the visors are not suppose to be standard for the sr5.

The good thing is this: This issue has been a concern for all the sr5/sport owners from the beginning back when the 4runners came out. Toyota has already been notified by the stealers and the owners of this problem and toyota has stated that it was their production error. As testrider has posted, call the number up and you'll be told to provide vin #, name, addy as they will put you in a database and when the part arrives (prob not until late summer), they will notify you and you can have the part installed via warranty. Also for their inconvenience, they will give ya $10.00 amex gift certificate valid anywhere.

If you get shafted by the 800 number rep, call it again and try someone else that will help you. Your biggest defense is that most of us here has gotten the $10.00 and have been successful in filing for the mirrors (not like i'd use em but i know my passenger will.. hehe). Also another note, the new batches of 4runners come standard with the vanity mirrors so you can also state that as well :)

sorry for the long post...

Lance

they finally did the followup

Hey guys/gals.

Toyota finally called me back and left a message saying that they would be sending the new visors with vanity mirrors and a check for 10 bucks to help with the pain and suffering I had over this. To think they tried to blow me off, then the dealer called me and said "well we got one just like your with no vanity mirrors" really irritates me. Oh well, glad I gave them a hard time, sometimes you need to gripe to get things done.

So in the next few months they will be sending me some vanity mirrors. Now all I need to do is get them to see it my way regarding the appearnce package installation I want ;)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

My wife iis really annoyed at the fact that such an expensive truck doesn't have "lighted" vanity mirrors. My SR5 came with the vanity mirrors and I was wondering if they have lighted mirrors for the 4Runner. If they do I will replace them and have the old ones available for anyone who wants to buy them cheap!

I don't understand, you have the sliding vanity mirrors but they don't light up when you slide the door open? I have an SR5 and they both do!!! If so, that would make three different visor options; no mirrors, mirrors that light, and mirrors that don't.

Picture of Visor Mirror

Lighted Visor Vanity on my 2003 Limited. The light will shut off if the visor is lifted, even if the mirror cover is not slid shut. It turns on if the visor is dropped. I generally leave the lid closed.

Is that an '03 thing? 2004 brochure shows that only Limiteds come with lighted mirrors. Not even an option on the other lines. I wouldn't mind having some extra lights to hunt for all the junk the kid drops on the floor. Oh well.

Thanks testrider for the info, and ToolmanJohn for the picture..

Mine has it but doesn't have the light

Must be another one of those vanishing standard features, like the heated side view mirrors that are no longer part of the SR5 package.
