I am currently in the process of "reviving" a 1992 4runner SR5 V6. This is my future father-in-laws vehicle (1 owner) and I decided to get it back on the road for him. It has 175K miels and needed alot of body work (rockers, quarts, tailgate) which I have done and its getting ready to be painted. After its painted though... there are a few issues I'd like to address before I return the vehicle to him.
My main concern is with a steering issue:
The steering wheel turns about a 1/4-1/2 turn MORE to the right than it does to the left. (sucks when trying to park the car)
Now... I know the vehicle has been wrecked in the past and some steering parts may have been replaced. I asked him about it and he said that "the steering stops are set this way".
So... my question to you is.... Are there "steering stops" on the steering linkage or steering box of a 4runner??"
On my fiance's Xterra they are located on the lower control arms, but I didnt not see them there on the 4runner.
OR ... did someone install the steering linkage wrong?? (with the steering box NOT at center??)
My other issue is with the Rear ABS. The warning light is iilluminated on the dash and from a quick search on this forum I figured it to be the ABS controller. I was wondering if it is possible to bypass the ABS unit and run new brake lines to the rear (needs new lines anywayz). Also... is it possible to remove the rear brake leveling unit?? (It too needs lines replaced on it and the fittings refuse to be removed from the unit)
All help is greatly appreciated.
