And yet you have time to log in and try to get that last word in.
Yeah, that's exactly what I did.How many days ago was it that Foo had to ask again what the measurements were? I just couldn't wait to get that last word in! (heavy on the sarcasm).
What exactly did you contribute with that comment directed towards me? Hello pot, meet kettle.
Look man, your going against the grain with companies who have supplied thousands of these parts to customers. Your talking about world ending catastrophic events against 1mm of sway bar bushing fitment.
You are driving a 4runner with 150k or whatever miles as your information states, you didn't even know what a sway bar was a week ago. You were driving a truck around with basically, ZERO sway bar bushing. Grasp that situation. Until it started making noises, did you suspect world ending events?
**** no you didn't. Stop making waves because we aren't putting in cancer curing research as to why 1mm difference in bushings isn't front page news. 20 year old trucks with 200k miles is probably near average on here. We are serious where it's necessary, like OEM balljoints over cheap aftermarket where they are known to fail. Did you know that? Did you replace yours at 150k? Those are CERTAIN to fail and kill polar bears before the sway bar bushings will.
Plus there is only so much concern for minuscule tolerance differences on a bushing that isn't nearly as crucial as you make it out to be. If you wanted to learn what you were working on, stop spending 10 hours reading, typing, telling people who know what sway bars and their functions have been before you learned 2 days ago. Someone who worries about stuff like you should honestly probably not be in a vehicle this old/high mileage. Your gonna worry yourself into a ****ing aneurysm.

You can bring all the cliche insults you want, but the fact remains you are doing nothing to add to this discussion. As for attempting to call me out, I never claimed to have any information to add. I'm merely calling for you guys to leave him to his research. You people on the Internet get so offended, yet all you have to do is simply move on. If you're not helping him, you don't need to be insulting him. It's just that simple. Go ahead and keep arguing and getting that last word in but the fact is you're not helping this forum at all with your posts.
Well, I think all this discussion and research might be leading to a positive result for future 3rd Gen owners looking to purchase poly bushings for their sway bar and end links. Greg at Energy Suspension and Dominick at Prothane are working to figure out a correct kit to offer us.
I am curious if there indeed is different end link post diameters out there in 3rd Gen Land though and that's why Prothane is claiming the kit works for some and not others.
I've got some replacement end link bushings coming from Energy Suspension. But, they are not the ones from the 8.5118 kit that was recommended to me by several members on the forum because Greg said he didn't have that kit in stock. The one's he's sending are super close to the correct size (just a little narrower outside diameter) but since the 8.5118 kit is so affordable from Summit, I just went ahead and bought the kit.
I don't think there's a difference between the sway bar links. All the links I've ever come across I've been able to use Energy 9.8105 bushings with no issues. These are the bushings that I've been using for a long time.
Thanks for your thoughts and info. I figure if anyone would know it would be you since you've got a lot of experience with the end links on our rigs. I wonder why Prothane thinks there's differences within the 3rd Gen years though. I think the next time I visit my neighborhood Toyota dealership, I'm going to hit them up with this question and see what they say.
The sway bar links should all be a 12mm. The thread pitch should be 12mm x 1.75 for the front, and rear on all years. This is the same size for the 4th and 5th Gen's too.
It's been my understanding that the front sway bars came from the factory as a 25.4mm diameter, and the rear as a 19.05mm diameter. Being that the choices are 25mm, and 26mm I can see where the confusion comes in. I can see the 27mm bushings causing issues, but not the 26mm.

If I remember correctly, when I was at the LCE site they had different bushings (Part#) for the 96-98 4Runners.
Edit: It's actually the 27mm for 96 & 97 4Runner.
Front Sway Bar Bushings (27mm) Tacoma & 4Runner
sooooo. sorry to interrupt your guys discussion, but its a long read and kind of confused....
Ordered Prothane 18-1115 Red 26 mm Front Sway Bar Bushing Kit from Aamazon, is that the right one for my 99 4Runner?
The 26mm sway bar bushings will fit great. The end link bushings are a horrible fit. The inside diameter of the OEM bushings is 3/8" while the bushings in the kit are almost 6/10". A very sloppy fit on the posts of the end link.
I just bought the Energy Suspension 8.5118 kit to get the right size end link bushings. MStudt has reported the bushings from the 9.8105 kit are also an accurate fit.
Oh ok. would i be able to run the end link bushing even though its a sloppy fit?
Or will it give me trouble in the road. Cause that sucks Id have to buy two kits :deadhorse:
I'm running the sloppy fit bushings right now. Can't detect any issues running them but I'm kind of anal and I want ones that are an accurate fit.
