Stereo question install

I’ve thought swapping the heater unit and stereo might be an option too. Maybe going SD it’d be possible? I’m sure just a matter of retiring stuff a bit.
Has anyone here done that swap?? Pictures if you have.

Swapping the heater unit and stereo is probably NOT possible. There's not a whole of extra wiring for the heater controls. I saw go with a DD touchscreen. That's what I have and it looks nice. Very easy to operate too.

Of course it's possible to switch them. But how plausible? I think once you take apart the center dash, you'll see how much work that would entail. I've got a double din DVD/Nav unit and have never had an issue with the low buttons. I could see the screen viewing being an issue if I didn't have the ability to tilt it up though.

I wish it was easier to access the radio. Mine has a short that keeps the dial from lighting up. If I'm going to play with that, I'll just get a new stereo.

-the cable to the left may be twist off(ash tray).
-the middle cable(cigarette lighter) is removed by pressing on the clip.
-the cable on the right(cigarette lighter) may have a clip to the right or on the bottom if not i think it simply slides off.


TBH i dont think you need to remove the wiring from the center bezel though i think you can simply put the bezel to the side. There should be more than enough slack on the cables to do so.

Can't remember but the only thing you need to remove is the stock amp. Don't need it anymore.

the leftmost black cable is the antenna cable

They're actually both antenna cables. 3rd gens have two. One in the front that is the motorized one and a 2nd one that goes to the back passenger window. It's what you see framing that cargo window. They make a Y connection that you can find on amazon if you want them both hooked up. Currently I only have the main line and most of the time it works fine. I do want to get the rear connected as the AM side can be weak at times.

You see that little rectangular slot at the bottom right of the stereo? Yeah, that one. It's this cool thing called a USB slot. You take your cd's, a USB stick and then your computer and copy the CD's to a USB stick. It will never, ever, skip. Ever. lol

One happy girl!! No skips flying 75 down chicago expressways or on the regular streets I drive on.
Kenwood Double Din bought n wired through Crutchfield.
Took me about an hour or so to install.
I did not know the regular speakers in the Runner were that good.
This truck keeps surprising me with how easy and awesome it is.
It’s now beer-thirty!

Hahahaaaa... i love my CDs. You can even make wind chimes out of them!
I have an iPod classic but have no idea how to load or unload stuff. Kids have all that fancy stuff.
This is why I have a 3rd Gen. Simple yet tough.. like me.
