Hi, my 2010 4RT makes a couple of strange engine/driveline types noises and I can't figure out what the problem is. A dealer mechanic took a look and said it was "coming from under the vehicle". I booked it in for service and to have these noises looked at, but the dealer merely treated the belts with some sort of spray and called it a day.
If I put the truck in gear, put the brakes on and bring the RPM up to just over 1000, I hear a noise that sounds a little like a screechy vibration. This noise can be replicated at will.
The second strange noise occurs when driving in 2nd gear around 40-50 kph. At no-load cruise the truck sounds smooth and normal, but if I put just a whiff of acceleration load on the truck I hear a significant thrumming, cyclical noise combined with the screechy noise above and it seems seems to be correlated with road speed, not engine speed. 2WD, 4Hi ... doesn't make a difference as the sounds are identical in either case.
The truck has only 29,000 km on it, the noises have been with the truck since new and is dead stock. All service done by the dealer, never use 4Hi or 4Lo on pavement or hard-pack.
Any ideas?
