I have tried and tried, had a friend try, used WD-40 and tried....can't get the dang hitch bolts to come loose on my 97 Limited. The new 99 SR5 I bought has no hitch, so I want the hitch from the old one before it goes. Thoughts? Suggestions?? HELP!!:redbrick::frusty:

Haha. Try all the above. And if they still won't come out you may have to grind down the bolt heads and pound them out with a sledge and punch. This is what I had to do. Granted my hitch was also toast because the ball mount was rusted in place as well.

tell Ol Blue to not be such a ***** and just put some M A N into it and undo the bolts... righty tighty, lefty losey... wft is the problem lol

Heat (MAPP gas) will help a ton. The bolts secure into a long piece of metal with nuts on it that runs along the inside of the frame. When I took my hitch off, it broke the metal all to hell. Not sure if mine was factory but if you're looking to reuse it, you might need to get a new piece. I had to use a 18" breaker bar to get mine out.

He's going to LOVE that comment. If he lived anywhere near here, I wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately, we are temporarily long distance...

As a 5'4" female, there's a limit to how much I can do physically. However, I CAN find a bigger breaker bar...:biggrin1:

Add a cheater pipe, too, then. 24" breaker 1/2"-drive with a 3' cheater and six-sided socket and you can do it, girl! This is no chance with 3/8" drive stuff. A hard rap on the bolt head with a hammer just to scare it before you start always helps. Heat may not do much good as you can't get to the nut, only the bolt head.

Bad news is you may just break the nut loose from the metal strip Srabai was talking about. Then it's grinder time on the front one. It happened on my back one, but I had the bumper off and I was able to just reach it with a long box wrench from the rear of the frame member.

Use lots of anti-seize when you put it in its new home.

"Give me a lever long enough and I shall lift the world"
Paraphrased from Archimedes

I twisted off the fine threaded bolt closest metric size to 3/8" that is used to fasten front recovery shackles with a 1/2" drive breaker bar and 4' of pipe over the handle.

I was surprised how easy, quick and little effort it took.

unfortunately, at the time, I was not trying to twist off the bolt...only remove it.

its ok, i guess i just took it the wrong way. i was not trying to defend the lady. just speaking up where is perceived something necessary.

-typically the vast majority of us here are males, and its typically assumed that "you" are a male until something(say a post or picture) indicated that you are a female... now we all know typically males are bigger and stronger than females, so my reasoning for my post was, "why do we have to state what is already a given..." yeah most of use guy dont have issues with doing physical work, sure some have more brute strength than others ect, but when a woman states that yeah i dont have the brute power/strenght to do what is stated, then why the need for some guy to come along and be well ive never had that problem bla bla bla... it just seamed to me to be a little egotistical and male chauvinistic, thats all. typically the guys that i run into that say that kinda stuff and mean it are douche bags and are trying to compensate for lacking something somewhere -personal insecurities ect.

i just despise guys who make the rest of us look bad by stupid comments. i know i too am guilty of this, but when i do cross the line i expect to be called on it and will admit i was out of line. no harm no foul. carry on

to the OP, if blue tells you "pain is only weakness leaving the body" remind him you dont grunt like a guerrilla and were never abused for no reason :hungry::vader:
