Sunroof water leak

I just want to resurrect this thread to see if anyone else has noticed water dripping from the channel surrounding the sides of their sunroof. I've been running without a headliner for a few weeks now, and I can confirm that my drains are clear, but I still get slow drips from the seam in the channel shown in the pictures here.

Anyone else encounter this? Can anyone who has dismantled a sunroof offer any insight?

I'm gonna second what Jon said. I haven't personally encountered this before but it seems to be the most reasonable explanation. Especially if it's not leaking from clogged drains. There's only so many places it could leak from. I wonder if you can just replace that rubber molding/gasket thing and perhaps that would be a relatively inexpensive fix. At least it would be a good place to start since you're still having a leak.

I actually have one one with water coming through the sunroof itself. If your drains are clear it's possible that the sunroof itself is leaking?

A few years back some vultures in the Everglades decided to eat some of the rubber seal around my sunroof. For whatever reason, they love doing this down there...

I suppose that could be part of the problem, but I am still surprised that the actual channel seam seems to drip. Replacing the glass will certainly slow down water ingress, but something tells me that I should tackle this seam drip before I put the headliner back in.

Could you maybe take some water with food dye and dump it on there to try and track down the exact spot of the leak? Just an idea I'm spitballing.

I looked a little closer and the missing rubber from the vulture incident is the root of the problem. That particular channel is not meant to be waterproof by any means, which leads me to believe that the water is indeed coming through my ratty gasket. I'll be ordering an Ebay replacement since I don't have any u-pulls near me with 3rd gens.

Tim the toolman has a video on cleaning those sunroof as well as removing the head liner.

Seal it.

After chasing that leak a long time without success, I deleted the sunroof with a 10ft weatherstrip rubber seal:

The worm cables were locked up anyway.
No more leaks.
