Is the new tundra going to be equipped with the same v8, just bored out?

And maybe you know this, why is the avalon equipped with a 285 hp v6, and my 6 is 245?

The new V8 (truck engine) will be all new and bigger. The 280hp 3.5 V6 (in the Avalon) is from what I have read, a de-stroked 4.0. The new IS350 will have the 3.5 V6 with 306HP. When de-stroking the 4.0 it lost torque. It will increase the HP but will sacrifice torque and the power curve will change; making its power higher in the rev range. A truck would want its power as low in the rev range as possible. This is why the VVT-i is so great, it flattens the curve by making more power sooner and longer, by adjusting the valve timming.

When it comes to trucks..."no replacement for displacement." This is absolutely true, with or without VVTi, VTEC, etc.. VVTi cannot make torque out of thin air! It can only flatten a torque curve...it cannot make the torque curve higher.

Remember, as a similar development, the 4runner's V8 came from Lexus LS400 4.0L V8 engine back in the 1990's. When Toyota pumped up the displacement and emphasize torque, the engine lost HP (from 290's to 230)...but the torque was higher (320 vs. 290) and it came on sooner for pulling power.

Everything has a compromise...you cannot compare a truck engine with a car engine.

SO, lets just say for argument sake, if you were to take a 300hp engine out of a IS300, and decided to put it into our rig, in order to make the necessary torque that would be adequate for the truck, you would loose hp in order to up the torque?

LOL, That's right - I forgot I had to be cafeful using "hood scoop' around you! From now on I will just refer to it as something inocuous like "pickle".

As in, I have a Sport Edition with a pickle on its hood...
