Supercharger discussion

I wanted to start this thread to discuss the supercharger URD (or others as may be available) is developing for the 5th generation 4runner/FJ Cruiser. I do not want this to turn into a debate on whether or not the stock motor has adequate power, we have a few threads talking about that already. :bash:

Based on my early readings I am at least interested in knowing more about the SCer. I think that I read that the stock fuel system will have to be upgraded and I am OK with that. My first concern is with the internals of the 4runner motor, are they strong enough to cope with the added stresses of forced induction? I mean with in reason of course, I am sure you can over boost the motor. I have owned a few turbo charged diesels and have had no problems with the motors, but a diesel motor with a stock TCer might not be the best comparison. I have read up on the work that URD does and have followed some of the early development, as info becomes available, and they seem to be concerned with producing a quality product.

Also, is the stock transmission OK to hold up to the added HP from this mod, or are upgrades needed there as well to support the SC?

Also I am sure there are questions about the price?... And can we get a big group buy discount?

Re-reading this, it might sound like I am affiliated with this project, but I am not, just curious and want to open a discussion, so I can make an informed decision, when the time is right.

Don't want to burst your bubble, but this already exists, in a few different threads. Do a search and you will see all the discussion around this, everything from the URD one to the possibility of a TRD one as well (one day).

I have searched and saw those threads, but they were dated. I was looking for any new info on the strength of the internals of the motors and the ability to hold up to boost over a long term, as I hope to have this 4Runner in 10 years. I figured with the ongoing prototyping and testing some new info would be available.

With Blacksunshyne on this.... like having new thread with updated information

I have also read the old threads and at some point it is nice to get a fresh start I also would love a TRD SC, or any other version. If not TRD, however, I have the dilemma of having a new 2012 and do not want to affect the power train warranty.

Call or e-mail Gadget at URD? Gadget ,the owner and designer of the only known 5th Gen 4Runner supercharger owns URD and has had it on since last summer.

TRD had a vendor tent at last years FJ Summit and told me that theirs would be out by Summit 2012 but havn't read or heard anything about it since then.

Here was Gadgets last post on it in the other forum..... Toyota 120 Platforms Forum - View Single Post - Gadget's Build Thread

I think I read somewhere that one will be raffled off by TRD at the Summit in July.

Thanks, I have been following that one over there. I know he is working on it, and I do not want to bother him with e-mails I am sure he gets enough already.

Be interesting to ask if he can support that ...

I would like to know that as well. If TRD offered one also it would be tough to pick between the two. My warranty will more than likely be expired by the time one is offered, at any rate, so I don't think that would be a concern for me. It would come down to price, reliability, and preformance...

Cant come soon enough

Put first 100 miles on it (12LE) today and it's too underpowered. Needs at least 300hp.
