Suspension decisions, spend my $400

I already have a Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift. I am debating three options right now. One is to get some Bilsteins and keep the current lift (I assume that the Bilsteins set at 2.5 will match up with my current setup). These would eliminate any nose diving during braking, and get rid of the stock shocks that are overextended.

The second option is to get the Toytec spring lift to go 3/2 and leave the stock shocks until they are worn out. The extra half inch would probably stop my rubbing in reverse, and the extra spring rate in the rear with my airbags would most likely get rid on any sagging with my trailer on (only drops .5", not enough to care, just going out on a limb). I am unsure on this as the UCA could become an issue, I already see a bit of positive camber with the current lift.

The third would be bust out another $400-600 and do the OME kit or coilover setup. Benefits to this would be easy install,
and improved ride.

Thoughts?

There is a Toytec ultimate complete kit with LR UCA's in the main classified section for $1100 shipped. That is an amazing deal. It is all brand new. I was going to go with that one but decided to go with the one I knew I would end up really wanting to get.

Adjustable 5100's, your coils, ditch the spacers, leave rear as is. Approx $180.00

Adjustable 5100's, OME 884 coils, ditch the spacers. leave rear as is. Approx $350.00

Add 2" rear coils, ditch the spacers. approx $180.00

Or as said above, wait a bit save up some cash and get what you really want :thumb3:

Good luck Brock!

PS. Why do you say your stock shocks are over extended? Also the 1/2" sag you get with your camper should be easily compensated for with your air bags.

If I do the 5100s all around and ditch the spacers up front, will I still have the same front lift with the same stock suspension characteristics? I do not see any reason to ditch the spacers, but maybe that is just me not understanding how a shock alone can lift the vehicle.

I have the cash to do whatever I want on my suspension, but I am a cheap ass so I tend to try to find ways to do what I want the least expensive way. If I decide to do the OME or otherwise, I will still do it just as quickly, just not sure its necessary to spend that amount of money if I can get away with $400 in some 5100s. The extra .5" clearance would be cool though, nothing wrong with adding a little height LOL. I am also sick of this damn lean.

I say they are overextended because in spec they are. They were designed for a certain height, which I am over. Is it a big deal, maybe not, but still overextended. I sometimes tend to over analyze. The rear airbags take the sag from around 1.5" to around .5", so they help but do not completely cure. This is running 30psi in them.

Brock,

Give This a read. In the meantime i'll look around for some more "how they work" info for you.

The cheapest route is to do it right the first time :D Just go for it and get the OME if that is what you really want!!!

and what lean are you talking about?

My passenger side has leaned since it was stock. I thought the airbags would get rid of it, but it is still there and just as bad as it was prior.

I can only imagine how frustrating the lean is....

I know there are a lot of guys with the same issue, allthough it's on the 4th gens. I know you had your coils out for the DayStar, did you see anything strange?

Did you ask the stealership about it?

Stu

Brock,

If you do go with the OME kit you can add this spacer to correct your lean. Or you can go with fully adjustable struts up front and set them accordingly.

If the truck is still under warranty, shouldn't the dealership fix the lean (assuming it is out of the acceptable tolerance)? Did you try that route?

A lot of the 2010's lean, unfortunately. With a lift, the dealer is not going to do anything about it even if it was out of spec.

My 11 also has a slight lean, Tacoma's and FJ's also experience some slight leans. Not sure about the Tundra but its seems to be the norm for Toyota trucks and why the 1/4" spacer is so readily available.

Dont mean to highjack the thread but Im in the same boat and I have looked at hundreds of pics on this site for lifts and read a ton (search feature) but Im still not sure which way to go. I dont want to really spend a grand (for the lift) I would like to add height, keep ride (maybe be alittle stiffer), add bigger tires. I dont want to add stress to any parts (wear sooner then they should). So Im torn on these options: (any advice)

1. 5100's (adjustable) and Toytec superflex 2" coil spring (on toytec site) cost is around 560.00
2. OME kit (shocks, springs) Kit 760.00 (844 and 895E I think) (on toytec site)

3. 5100s front with 1.5 daystar spacer (Will the spacer cause issues with coil spring down the road, will it effect offroading (flex), etc??? 250.00

4. 5100's front and 275 tires (no lift) 200.00

Im on the road 95% of the time, might do some beach driving, fire roads/worn and torn dirt roads. No rock crawling. Above doesnt have labor to put on....I would not be doing it. I would like some rack incase I have heavy loads or weight in the back. (.5 to .75 is ok). I do have the drivers lean like most of us have (bugs me but I deal):wtf:.

Really looking for input.

I could do the OME rear coil spring at 1.5 with 5100s I guess too, after reading the ABS issues with 2" coil. I wonder what that is all about. Dont need the headache of that. Im sure the dealer would be charging to figure it out because the truck was altered..??

You did :bash:

With all the options you want opinions on you should start a new thread!

Just saying! ;):

Get flammed for starting new threads, get flammed for being part of another thread with the same questions....oh well. :moon: lol
