Suspension Experts Needed

Interesting remarks OP.

I've been reading this forum since 2010 and I cannot remember an instance of anyone reporting the failure of a Bilstein shock perch. It's such an easy, reliable, and cheap-ish way to improve ride/handling and gain some lift.

It happens very rarely, and when it does its almost always install error.

Some people dont realize that a lot of the 2.5, and even larger race shocks are held together internally with Cir-Clips.

If you still dont want to go that route, we carry OME shocks & spring sets, the Fox 2.0 coilover system with threaded shock body, Radlfo 2.0 etc. We also have the bigger 2.5" systems.

Also, check out the Rancho QuickLift shock, preset at 2"

I always thought the 884s were a 3" lift as well. if you go to the toytec website the complete OME kit says they provide a 3" but if you look at the springs by themselves it says 2". Is this because of difference in where the spring sits on the OME shock vs. stock shock?

I just ordered mine from Total Automotive and the site says 2.5"-3" lift. part number 2884. OME Coil Springs - Total Automotive Performance - Your Source for Auto Parts and Accessories

I am assuming that is the same as the 884 but I could be wrong.

Are you going to be using the factory strut?
If so,please post up how much lift you get, I'm very curious.

Thanks!

I have looked at both the fox 2.0 and the Radflo 2.0 but not sure I want to spend that much. Is there a big difference quality wise between the two?

They are very similar units in terms of quality. Both made in Southern California :whoo: Fox come around 720, Radflo 2.0 about 820

I can understand why everyone goes with the Bilstein suspension but I personally don't want to have to worry about it failing. There are plenty of people who have had that c clip fail. To each his own. I would just rather have welded perches

Wanna know what I worry about? Old bridges. All braking systems. Tires. Other drivers. Deer. Not circlips.

I can only remember one instance where someone here changed the height after having them installed for a while. There was speculation that the c-clips were not reusable (not sure I'd reuse them either) but IIRC we came to the conclusion that either the clip was spread out to far and/or it was not seated correctly.

Now, on the f150 boards there have been a few 5100 failures but not from the c-clip. The eyelet on the bottom of the strut was snapped off on all the failures and all the failures happened to those running at the top setting but not all who run the top setting have failures. What I gather from those posts is, the bottom strut bolt was torqued down with no weight on the vehicle. So, at resting height the strut bushing is already stressed. Add in major suspension compression from a hard hit and the already stressed bushing has to twist too far which puts too much side load on the welds holding the eyelet on (which is also holding the front of the truck up) and pop. The strut fails.
