T4R Express

DZNUTS

So on the Tacoma World forum, they have something called Tacoma World Express. As an example, John is in NYC and Joe is in Washington D. C. John buys sliders from someone in Washington but is trying to save $$$ on shipping. Joe is headed up to NYC next weekend. John throws Joe a case of beer and the following weekend Joe arrives with John's sliders.

I've already utilized the TW Express twice. I think it's a great idea. Not sure if it's been attempted here as well.

Any takers? If interested in the idea, perhaps the mods could sticky this thread.

If there is enough interest in the Mid Atlantic/Northeast a Region, I'll start a thread just for our area.

- DZNUTS (Philly to D.C. and NYC)
- Shocks
- kott3670 (Vegas to Salt Lake City)

When I had my FJ and was active on FJNortheasters we did this as well and saved a lot of people shipping costs. Plus you got to meet new people which made the forum more of a family versus a place where people talk about a common interest. We just called it a parts train because sometimes the part would pass through two or three peoples hands to get to the purchaser.

Despite what you call it, it was great.

I'd love this, and already met great people through this forum! And am looking for someone driving from Tucson AZ to Las Vegas to pick up TRD-Pro suspension for me! Would gladly provide beer or cash for the service if it's before mid May! And in offer of services, I drive Vegas to Salt Lake City fairly often and am always looking for another excuse to head up that way! Great idea!

Awesome, thanks for posting up guys [emoji106]

Hopefully, more people will post up and we get save a lot of people $$$

I hope some of the moderators see this thread and makes it a sticky

I see it. Let's see how much interest there is first.

I can't see why people wouldn't be interested in saving money on shipping and helping their fellow forum members out

Sometimes people don't want to be bothered or they can afford it. Big difference between here and TW is the sheer volume of enthusiasts. Not so many here.

Getting more into the details of this 'scheme', how exactly does it work? Do people post in the thread asking if anyone is travelling to a certain location? Or do people post up when they are going somewhere and are willing to pick something up? Or both?

Was actually just thinking of posting this idea this past weekend, as we do it a lot in my other car groups I'm in. I actually got my wheels for my 4runner because from Omaha and a member from omaha was driving through my city.
Only thing she asked is pay it forward. If you need anything from Iowa let me know.

Not quite sure why you would think its a scheme? And both methods work. Whether you found something of interest or whether you are traveling and have some room to spare.

I think it fits perfectly with the definition of scheme.
"A plan or arrangement for attaining some particular object or putting a particular idea into effect."
But, if you wish to apply an alternative meaning, such as one that implies something devious is happening, then we can look at the thousands of dollars shipping companies are being denied and the resulting poor delivery drivers who can no longer put food on the tables for their hungry children.:wink2:

same great idea that was on ih8mud - Mudship.

I found it worked great, if you're on your way some direction post up final destination and time frame with ability to carry/ deliver/meet others for shipping.

I've posted in the "Free" section of the classifieds for some trips where i could meet up and grab stuff for shipping/ transport but no takers. Obviously very specific direction, path and needs.

I'd say move it over to the classified section for better luck!

So I'm confused is this about taking business away from shipping companies makes it a scheme? The reality is you said it yourself, they are losing business because these "poor" delivery drivers are doing a piss poor job of the only thing they are paid to do..delivering to the right doorstep the first time, in a timely manner, not damaged..
Sincerely, someone who used to work in the shipping industry as a delivery driver. To do it right is hard work, I realized I was part of the minority who took it serious and of course if you are doing your job right, they expect you to cover for the slackers. Sorry, but I really don't see this as shipping industries losing out on sales, since most of these are usually CL finds. And if a family/realative or in this case a t4r friend is in a city with an item I want and are traveling through my hometown I don't see how this hurts. Sorry but good luck out there in the harshness of the real world :flypig::flypig::flypig::flypig::flypig:

I hear what you're saying, I still think we can make this a viable alternative to paying $$$ for shipping

Leaving from SoCal to Wyoming on a round trip on the 18th if anyone is on that route and needs something moved northeast (or southwest on return trip).
