I've been fabricating a lot of parts for my second 4runner project. I almost finished my first when it was totaled after someone ran a stop sign and the only pic I have is of the accident. So I thought I'd document more this time.

I don't know if it makes sense, but that whole back end looks bullet proof. Then you have the two rear side windows that are easily breakable. This may be a stretch, but I think it would be cool to replace that with routed plexiglass, and maybe even set up some kind of pop out system. It would fit that back end a lot better and you could even gain some functionality out of it!

I actually have bullet proof glass cut already for them. Just haven't gotten around to installing them

Power antenna broke so I replaced it with a 4ft firefly cb antenna. The reception is way better than stock.

I put the cb antenna on the other side, I always liked this look.

I built a job cart I can 4 wheel on rough job sites color matched to my truck. It also folds up and fits in the back seat.

Installed the lower grill. I'll build the bumper on both sides, joined in the center with a hitch receiver.

Got the roof done with diamond plate. I decided on a sun roof while I was working on it. I'll make a door later that flips all the way open. I got rear ended at a stop light so I'll be making a new rear bumper soon too.

Cut off the old bumper and starting a new one. This one will be heavier and might incorporate an air tank.

Got the bumper finished and painted. Definitely stronger than the last one. I have an air fitting in the back and I made steps at the ends since I was always using the ends of my other bumper for that. I did these like grates so mud will go through and you can't slip.

Here it is, mounted with 12 1/2 inch hardened bolts.

Now the upper grill matches the lower with mesh, and I toned down the turn signals with their own custom grills.

This is a very cool thread. I've been thinking about doing an extensive build like this too, but my focus is less towards off-roading and more towards luxuries like the LX470 and new BMW X7. I was looking for a guide to raising the roof. (6'1" and paying for it) You have given me some very ideas. Thanks!

Thanks. Most of it is made to look heavy. I'd estimate less than 300 lbs over stock at this point.
