That imobilizer light

I've never noticed it before. But looking at it today. The
light would stay on solid than start blinking if lock.
If not lock just start blinking It came with
3 keys they all look the same. Went and got the keys
been using since picked up the suv and made no change.

If you re- inserted the key been using wouldnt it reset the
system if one happened to be a valet key.

OK, mine's gray too -
it is such a dark gray that I couldn't harly tell the diff until I looked at side-by-side. Would be hard to distinguish in the dark.
Now I'm just trying to figure out what to do with it! I don't want another key on my ring, and it doesn't make sense to keep it in the car for those rare times I might actually use a valet service!

Valet Key is kind of pointless. Valet Key does not open the trunk (who cares, since the trunk is "open" from within the vehicle) and it does not open the glove compartment. I don't keep anything of value in the glove compartment so it doesn't make a difference to me.

The other limitation of the grey valet key is that you can't use it to program the vehicle computer to recognize a new key. That takes a black "master" key that is already recognized by the computer. Therefore if you lose both master keys you can still use the valet key to drive the vehicle but you will have to buy a new computer to be fully back in business.
Presumably this is to prevent criminal parking guys from taking your key and car and programming recognition of another key which they could later use to steal your car.

I did realize another good use for the valet key to at least lock the glove box. That is when I have the car serviced I can lock valuables in there. I took my wife's car in for a tire rotation, and didn't realize until a week or so later that someone swiped her CD case with about 20 CD's in it. If it had been in a locked glove box, this wouldn't have happened.

CVs4Runner - what is that big "0" you have as your avitar? I moved to a neighborhood in Columber where everyone was flying these big "0" flags. When my boss asked how I like the place, I said, "Fine. But there's all these houses flying these big maroon flags with zeros on them. Do you think we're in the midst of a obscure cult or sumptin?" He looked puzzed at 1st, then began to laugh. Then I became the but of many jokes around the place. But I was right - it was a cult of sorts in that town! :arrow:

You should be be able to reprogram keys with the little metal thing that came with your keys. It was a small metal key fob with some numbers on it. apparently with the VIN and this number you can reprogram the key. Thats what it said on the manual if my memory serves me correctly...
