The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Thanks, going to check this out tomorrow! This may be my vacuum issue and rough idle. I was just afraid to rip the line out but going to replace with a longer one.

I know the intake silencer is capped off. The line I'm referring to is circled in red on this photo. It runs from the back of the Power Steering pump and used to connect to the upper intake manifold. Just don't know what happens to it now.

Holy crap! That is one purdy engine bay.

That's what I was thinking also maverickhawk! I don't think he's ever even gone through a mud hole with his Runner...lol! Heck...my first weekend after I bought my 4Runner...you couldn't tell what color anything was under the hood...it all looked the same...mud pie brown...lmao!!!

Ah, got me stumped there. On mine, that manifold connection was where my mystery line was connected, which shootmymime identified as the the 4WD VSV. If yours is connected to the steering pump, well, that's just interesting.

curious as to what everyones opinion on the urd crankshaft pulley is?Underdog Racing Development the claim is that "for every pound reduced in rotational mass of the crankshaft assembly, you gain 2.7 acceleration horsepower." anyone have any experience with this ?

foxrider56 I bought one of these. My original pulley was in bad shape and really needed replaced. Thought I'd take a chance on one of these. The anodized red is sexy as hell looking...especially if you have other pulleys that are already anodized red. And if you like the red...that's nothing after you pick it up! Just incredibly light. I instantly fell in love with this. I don't know the actual weight differences (maybe 7-10lbs lighter)...I'd say it's like comparing a Yugo to a semi-truck! Huge, huge difference!! I'll go out on a limb and say I have no doubt this will help make more power! If nothing else, the engine should rev super fast!!

I haven't installed mine yet...I'm getting ready to. Once I complete my install, I'll post something up about my thoughts and maybe a picture or two!

Thanks for all the help everyone. I discovered that this hose is only on 96-98 4runners. The later generations don't have a hose there running from the power steering pump. They actually have it capped off.

Yeah that is weird. My 4WD VSV was originally running up the right side of the engine bay up to the back.

So it would be interesting to hear what anyone else did on their 96-98?

Ok, figured out what I'm going to do. Will run the power steering hose to the intake silencer and remove the vacuum plug that TRD instructs to cap off.

Originally that ran to the fuel pressure regulator so it should work for the PSP.

Thanks everyone for the advice!:clap2:

Okay... I was asking cause the master cylinder was on the left side lol...

Quick question regarding installing a supercharger. I am swapping out the supercharger from a 96 to my non-supercharged 97, and putting my parts in the 96. Is there anything additional I need to make the swap? Should I be replacing any gaskets? The 96 doesn't have any fuel mods.

To be safe I would change all the gaskets out that you remove, they have been sitting for 17+years... Also fuel mods are optional trd took pretty good care of you, don't believe everything you read on the internet, you can run the sc without fuel mods.

Thank you for the reply, the gaskets are the same for supercharged and natural aspirated, correct? Is there more than the throttle body and intake manifold? I don't plan on any fuel mods until I have it installed for a bit. I really only wanted to get a little extra power for when climbing mountains and camping trips. I usually have it loaded down a lot with 4 people and the extra power would be lovely.

Only gasket you need to change is the lower manifold gasket if it's bad. If you never changed it you should it's part# 17176-62040.

You may also need to change out hoses if there cracked and old.

Otherwise the kit comes with everything you need.

He doesn't have a kit he is swapping it from the one of his trucks to another...

OP there is a specail TB gasket and manifold gasket if I remember correctly, but I would just go to the parts store and get the run of the mill gasket, it should work the same

Perfect thanks so much!

INSTALLED!

I want to thank everyone who has contributed their time and experiences to this board. I am sure it would have taken many more hours. I bet I referred to this board 7 or 8 times during the install. You know who you are, thanks again.

That's what makes this site great!!

I can't wait till my SC is out from under the workbench and installed under my hood.

The TRD throttle body gasket is completely round as opposed to the stock one. I just popped by the dealer and got one. I don't recall it being all that expensive. Just make sure you put it on the right way -

Could be wrong, but I think he just wanted to get the thing up and running and in that case any old gasket will work. I actually ended up having to use RTV on mine :( Which reminds me I need to fix that...

Roger that. To be clear, you're saying I should tap here:

And run the line around the back, which I think I can just make out in your picture.

@Oxfded...I guess I got totally confused  Just want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I get started....I'm truly hoping for a "no issues start up"

So, in your above attachment...is this where you ended up "T"ing into for your 4wd VSV line (pictured below)? Or...did you go with a vacuum block attached to the large brass barb that the fuel regulator attaches to?? Or...can I do it either way?? If so, is either way better than the other? Thank you for clarifying this for me! As soon as I get this figured out...I can start my install. Which I'm hoping to do this weekend
