The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Any exhaust gasket for the 3.4 will work

The front left primary connect to the cross over pipe and it not the same as others (factory is not the same).

I've got some gaskets coming in from auto zone. Dealer is calling TRD to get more info.

I was disappointed from auto zones gaskets. They don't fit very well. They fit. But not the best.

Also what is a good gasket sealer for it? You know. To maybe eliminate those small small leaks that could show up.

Oh i thought you were talking just on to the cylinder heads. I doubt they make a good gasket maker that will stand up to that heat.

yeah everyone talks about the manifold gaskets fitting, but what about the flange gaskets. WTF i dont want to just throw it on and check for leaks ive got moab next weekend.

Is anyone using an electric fan in their supercharger setup to give more power to the motor because it doesn't have to waste power turning the fan?...

. . . .

Do you have a build thread so I can check this out?

I dont as i was just pulling your chain. :) Im sure the trd supercharger would pull that electric fan though the motor if they were both installed. They dont work basically. If there was a corner to cut im sure toyota would have done it instead of building a big heat producing metel supercharger.

hey SCRunner, thanks for all the info on how to get the most out of a s/c. That is near the top of the list after I recover from the suspension mod. I've read that high mileage (200,000 ) is not a problem, do you know about that?

Ok so, I have about 15 hundred miles on a new sc, no fuel mods. I just run 92 octane with 1-2 gals of 102 octane. Works for us as this is not a daily driver.
I found a used sport hood & decided to do several little projects when I had several things off the truck (OCD type stuff). One thing I thought would be to take off the vacuum canister because one of it's brackets was rusting thru. Now one day the wife needed to run a couple of errands. I was gone so when we were both home I was like, tell me when you take the truck. The vacuum ( canister was off ). So, I asked, did it throw a code? No. How did it run? She said, good. Ok.
So for several weeks the truck sat in garage waiting for me to get put back together the battery died. I think I have a parasitic drain with the viper alarm. SO, dead battery.
Now the vacuum canister "bracket" was welded and inspected. No leaks, & repainted with POR15 then coated with rattle can undercoat.
Charged the battery. Started the truck. Didn't get typical high start up idle. Didn't even want to stay running. Shut it off after a minute or two. Restarted, fine but idled between 870 & 750. Drove it 15 miles. Now it throws PO171. Scan gauge cleared. Still has a small idle lope.
How can sitting & pulling one little hose cause such that much havoc? I seriously doubt sitting in a near climate control garage would cause a dirty MAF, or faulty 02 sensor.
In the process of trying to reset everything, and inspect all vacuum lines.
Has to be related to dead battery, doesn't it? Vacuum leak sounds more plausible though. One tiny hose, one simple canister. Right? WTF.

When I first installed my Supercharger I was in somewhat of a hurry and would get P0171 after 2 drive cycles consistently. Used the brake cleaner method and sprayed it around til the idle picked up. Turned out to be one of the main bolts the attaches the blower to the manifold was like 1/2 turn, maybe 3/4 turn loose. So yes, one tiny hose could certainly cause the lean code.
Any vacuum leak after the MAF would cause a lean code.
Good luck

Yeah when I first hooked up the SC she did the typical crazy looping & I thought what did I just do? Took over a 1 1/2 hrs looking for problems that weren't there. Just drove it.
Hopefully it just heat went thru enough thermal expansion & contraction cycles that just coincided with a two month sit. Good advice. Thanks!

The one bit of advise I can give on the headers, is to make sure you get those them ceramic coated, that's the one thing I wish I had done before putting in the TRDs...now I need to have a week of down time with my truck to take them out and get them coated and then reinstall them.

Can you elaborate on the ceramic coating?

I did quite a bit of research on an electric fan setup and really didn't like what I was seeing. It seemed like everyone who was doing was having problems.

I believe Stick Figure is one of the only people running one without issue. It's one of the first posts in his build thread.
