The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Hey guys,

Thank you for all the help over the past year with my junkyard supercharger project and rebuild.

The 4runner is moving on to a family member but I will be removing the supercharger. So now I need a bit more help with what is this thing worth?

Gen 1 supercharger - Fully rebuilt (All bearings, Gaskets, Coupler)
Dynamic tensioner
Every piece needed to install

Let me know guys.

At best, $2500. I see good used ones going for around $2000 much more often though.

Put it on eBay and let the bidding war begin
I’ve seen them go for 4k

Can I borrow it for a bit? Just to see if I need to buy it. But not for $4k lol

Hey guys! I have the Magnuson SC, URD 7th Injector and 2.2" pulley installed on my 2000 5-speed. I have been playing around with my tuning maps a bit and I am getting good results. I grabbed some data on the R4 software last night and I have some questions on some of the results...

The URD AIC is seeing max MAP pressure of 7.2 psi (I'm at 2880' in the miserable city of Midland). My boost gauge is showing closer to 9-10 psi. Is this similar to what you all are seeing with this pulley size? and why might there be this discrepancy in pressure readings?

Does anyone know what Injector B is referring to? Injector A should be the 7th injector, I believe...

Injector A showed max duty cycle of around 54% during my 1st-3rd gear pull. Is this the actual duty cycle or do I need to multiply it x2 like in the fuel map? I'm assuming that this is the actual value since I'd be shocked to be maxing out the extra injector...

Below is a data log from the pull.

I think the pressure differences have to do with the display settings for either the URD software or the boost gauge depending on if yours is digital or not. "Absolute" pressure is different than relative pressure and rule of thumb is 1 psi per 1,000 feet so at your elevation that would explain the couple PSI difference. There's a display function on the URD software to change it so that might help.

As far as duty cycle it would appear that yes you are maxing out the injector. You have it set up at "3 cylinder 2 stroke" engine in the settings right?

Boost gauges are notorious for being inaccurate. The MAP sensor on the URD is much more reliable. That sound about right for being near 3000 ft up with the 2.2" pulley.

Not sure what injector B is on that map, but A is definitely the 7th injector. You're not maxing out the 7th injector at 7.2 PSI, it can handle fuel needs of up to 11 PSI, that's true duty cycle you are seeing at 54%. The URD AIC unit cannot read the injector duty cycles of the stock injectors. To do that you'd have to have cut and splice all 6 injector wires, which I'm positive you didn't.

Makes sense with the absolute vs. relative pressure. Yes, I am set up as "3 cylinder, 2 stroke".

Yeah it's definitely not wired to see stock injectors. I'll try to reach out to Gadget and report back with the findings on Injector B. Thanks!

1996 vacuum lines - where do they go now?

so I am having some trouble with the vacuum lines now that the supercharger is installed.

my hoses are dry as hell and Ill need to get some new ones. But my real struggle is going from a non supercharged vacuum hose set up, to a supercharged vacuum hose set up.

I have not been able to find a decent picture or walk through of where they need to go. And its different for each model year (I think) the papers I have read cover late model 3rd gens......(not what I need)

can anyone help? would like to have it up and running before work on Monday...

Here's the '96-'00 4WD version. I didn't see a 2WD version in the pdf

this hose is coming from the bottom of the steering pump. there is a second hose next to it that goes to the intake tube. but Im not sure where this one goes circled in red.

and these two I think go where the yellow circle is?

OK, I have solved the vacuum hoses.

but now the 7th injector is leaking fuel out from between where the plug connects, and the fuel line connects. its not a small leak either...

anyone have insight on this?

I'm curious what mpg do you guys get supercharging a 3rd get? Also with the additional power does our 5th gen hold up under the stress o towing

I gained 1 mpg with the supercharger install. Now I average 16. I got to test drive a 5th gen and my 3rd felt like it had the same amount of power. There was not much difference in the two that I couldn’t justify spending 40k for the same rig

I have towed with the supercharger and it does great.

I wonder what 5th gens will be like when they get to 350k?

16 mpg with a SC isnt bad at all. My 25 year old ass 96 3rd gen gets about the same as my wife's 5th gen n my son's gen. They all get bout 19 around town n 21 on the open hwy. Believe it or not the 4th gen is noticeably quicker than the 5th gen probably because of weight. I agree with you totally now let's see if her 5th gen gets to 300+ miles relative trouble free like our 318k 3rd gen. The 4th gen is at 265k n runs great n I'm sure if I sc this 3rd gen I will be able to keep up with him climbing the mtn passes to the ski slopes. Superchargering my 3rd gen does seem like an interesting project.

where can you buy this throttle body spacer?... is this a URD product?

LCE sells them Throttle Body Spacer Kit - 5VZ

AirAid sells them 510-502 AIRAID Throttle Body Spacer

aFE Power sells them Silver Bullet Throttle Body Spacer | aFe POWER.

But to be honest, the majority of the supposed dyno gain that LCE claims is from replacing the throttle body gasket to the "O" type from the restrictive "D" type. If you want a bigger bang for your buck, get the "O" gasket and get aFe's drop in dry or oiled filter Magnum FLOW Pro 5R Air Filter | aFe POWER or get a ported throttle body from maxbore.com Maxbore.com throttle body boring service and repair.

I gained a peak gain of +9 HP and +9 TQ with the aFe oiled filter alone.
