2WD to 4WD conversion.
I am planning on converting my 97 4runner to 4WD and I'm wondering if the transfer case can come separate from the trans or if I'll need to pull them together?

I have done extensive reading on this and think I am right but wanted to ask before I move ahead.
I have a really nice auto 1998 3.4 4x4 Limited that I just swapped a low mileage engine into. I have a rust bucket 97 3.4 4x4 5-Speed and would like to use to swap the 5-speed and probably the j-shifter transfer case into my 98.
I know this can be done several ways but I am thinking the best and quickest way would be to move the entire wiring harness and ECU from the 97 to the 98. Is this correct? I think there would be a few wires that would still need to be re-pinned or ran (clutch switches).

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but the transmission and transfer case can be separated.
You can either swap the engine harness with the ecm or you can get electrical wiring diagrams for both years of the ecm's and repin the ecm connector and add the manual transmission wiring and change the transfer case wiring. I would swap the harness over so you don't have to deal with additional wiring changes for the transfer case.
In case you didn't know you will need to swap the rear upper control arms and front/rear driveshafts as well.
I knew about the driveshafts (I have them) but not the rear upper control arms. What is different about them?
The 2wd upper control arms are longer than the 4wd upper control arms. This causes the rear pinion angle to be different. Because the 2wd and 4wd rear driveshafts use a different design (and amount of u joints) the 2wd driveshaft requires the rear pinion to point further up compared to what the 4wd driveshaft pinion angle is. If you don't change the rear upper control arms you will have a vibration.
Edit: I thought you were doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion as well. Oops no need to change rear upper control arms.

2002 Climate Control Unit Malfunctioning
I've been searching around but haven't found any threads on the automatic climate control units newer than 2016. The unit in my 2002 4Runner is having the typical malfunctioning issues. I am in British Columbia and trying to figure out my best option for replacement or sending it away to have it fixed. Would love some up to date help on this.

Very interesting, Toyota never made replacement bushings for the front two supports so it's very strange they made one for the rear. Good to know though, I wasn't even aware there WAS a third bushing but that might be the soft clunking I've had for the past year, that seemed to get better/worse as I messed with the diff drop. Transfer Case Issues
‘99 Limited. Shifted into 4WD, would not shift out. Tried all suggestions, no luck. Finally tapped on what I think to be actuator and it popped out. This is what I tapped on but it does not look like any actuator on net photos. Any thoughts on a maintenance plan before the next CO winter?
