There's no such thing as a "tasteful mod". the most desirable is always stock, that way you appeal to those who WANT stock, and those who want mods (because they want to do them themselves, unless it's a Screaming deal).

Take care of the maintenance issues... "needs nothing till next oil change" goes a VERY long way when selling private market. I say this having made my income flipping vehicles for awhile. The cosmetics could, or could not, be worth it. Depends on how close you can get it to cream puff status for next to no additional investment. This is absolutely one of those scenarios where you shoot for an 80% improvement with 20% investment. Lt the Next owner spend the other 80% of Their investments trying to get that last 20% of improvement.

Be careful with pricing, I don't think there are Actually that many 4runners selling for over $10k... at least down here within ~300 miles of Atlanta. If you were along the stupid coast... I mean the west coast, then maybe the prices would be higher. But that, like, just my opinion man....

Is there supposed to be cover over the fuel filter on a '96?

I changed the fuel filter in my '96 SR5 4x4 last year and at the time I thought I might be missing a cover that I'd seen in Tim's video. I finally did some digging but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Nearest I think I've gotten is this diagram at PartSouq (51495) but they don't even give it a name and it's not linked to anything on the site.

If a cover is supposed to be there, does anyone have a part number? I'd ask Josh Young but I detest using facebook.

FWIW, it's more than just a fuel filter cover, but it does cover the fuel filter.

There was a plastic cover/shield over the fuel filter area, but most have either been broken off or left off. There’s really no reason to have it unless you want it. It’s too flimsy to provide any protection in my opinion.

Agreed. '99 onward. That driver-side splash shield has 'Transmission' in the name if anyone is searching. I still have mine somewhere since I would have had to notch it to fit the sliders i used.

I stripped my front diff drain plug today. Watched a YouTube video of a guy who used the irwin multi spline extractor 53227 set. I’d rather not pay money for the whole set, but rather just the single bit I need in order to extract said stripped drain plug. Info?

I got the kit and don’t remember which size I used but it ended up being smaller than I thought it needed to be. Really depends on how stripped it is I think. But the kit’s cheaper than paying a welder. $35 I think.

I was just reading through weekendclimber’s build thread yesterday. Here’s the post where he said it was the 7/16” extractor from the set. You can probably find a smaller set with some googling. https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3403330-post82.html Highly recommend replacing the drain and fill plugs with the Lexus plugs which have a hex head you can put a 6 point socket on. It’s listed in my parts reference:

So can I still use the OEM gaskets with the Lexus plugs? I know that probably sounds silly but I’m assuming I can? I already have them on hand, with new drain and fill plugs but I won’t use those plugs. I’ll grab the Lexus ones for sure.
