The Official 3rd Gen Dual Case, Dual Locked Thread

Soooo many shifter clearance issues. Thought the short shifter was going to help out but nope. Looks like I'll be bending the trans shifter and front reduction box shifter and cutting down the two rad design shifters.

Yep. Mines an auto so getting the triples to fit would have been even more work. That's why I went twins in the rear and single up front. I still had to cut and weld the rear right twin stick to clear the e-brake but other then that it was a perfect fit.

I had rad designs make a twin stick for the rear chain drive case for me. At first I tried to bend the stick and that was a huge PIA. It was much easier to cut it and weld it where I wanted it.

Just keep going and you'll have a huge smile on your face when you pull it out of the garage in lo/lo.

I have pics in my thread somewhere of bending mine. It took a few attempts to get it where I was happy.

I ended up bending the lower part a little more even after this pic

Thanks! That's what I needed. I bent the Lower part already. Closer to fitting it'll fit after I cut the 3 rear shifters down I think I'll make them all even.

The bend in the middle of the shifter really helped. Before I did it I was hitting my knuckles on the dash.

Getting closer. Dropped off my driveshafts and it was done in less than 24 hrs. So those are in. Gotta make the crossmember, drain and fill the cases, and do the in cab stuff like shifters (which I'm dreading)

Woo hoo. keep it up. BTW do you have a build thread?

I started a thread but not really a build thread. I'm a horrible person and don't go on forums enough. I should have posted my build more. I plan to be doing a thread when I sas with the dana 60 and sterling 10.5 I have sitting in my back yard though!

Some pregresss today only one more bend to the very left shifter to make now. There's enough play in the bushing for them to connect and not have anything wrong go on but I'm too anal to let the touching slide....

So on the list is finish the bend. Make the sleeve for the shifter linkage. Cover up the hole. Connect breather and fill up the tcases and I'm ready to crawl!

So did I **** up? Welding up the crossmember I noticed some fluid dripping. I didn't seal between the trans and tcase adaptor because there shouldn't be any fluid tranfer there right? But now I have a leak.

Was I supposed to rtv between the trans adapter and the transmission?

I had the sameish problem. I did use rtv from the adapt to the trans, I had fluid leaking from the lower bolts holding the adapter to the reduction box. A little extra rtv and it’s still sealed.

Mines coming from the housing. Did you drop the cases and reseal or just remove the bolts insert rtv and call it good?

Thanks

That's the only spot I didn't rtv and the only spot it's leaking. Dammit

Well, since there's no RTV in there at least the coupling will come off easy. Sorry man.

In my research a lot of guys had fretting from the coupling. Some guys coat it with anti-seize first then RTV or Permatex The Right Stuff it. I skipped the anti-seize and used Ultra Gray RTV. I know rkntoy used The Right Stuff.

A few weeks ago I pulled the shifter and bore scoped the hole that goes from the crawl box to trans adapter. It allows a very good view of that portion of the case. Mine was very dry. Which surprised me since a lot of wheeling I do gets very steep and I thought that hole I left open would allow gear oil into that dry space. It hasn't. There was about 2000 miles on my rig since install when I checked.

Pull it and use something to seal it. If not your trans fluid will mix with the gear oil. Sorry you missed it man. There's not a lot of talk about it but if you search Pirate it's there.

Miss read your response. I definitely put rtv on the coupler! I didn't put rtv on the mating surface. I'll get to dropping it and sealing it soon. Crazy bearing noise in the reduction box I should have changed them of well it's a bush truck

Finally finding time to work on this. Have to get the Runner ready for Moab in March. Still need to take the chain case apart and remove the pin and modify the fork for the Radesign plate. Is there a transfer case breakdown diagram? I've never opened one and need to know how to remove the interlock pin.
