I have a Tacoma and would like to perform this before adding an amplifier, will this work for my truck TRD off road and is the procedure the same?

Party mode - there's a subject that doesn't get discussed much any more. Since I added a DSP to my factory base audio system, I don't really want or need to utilize party mode. So, I disconnected the connector on the back of the party mode switch. All four rear speakers still work. Now, if I want only the rear door speakers to work, can I just jumper the hatch speakers like [MENTION=83083]rigtec[/MENTION] did above?
We had to stop talking about to avoid the increased jealousy of 14+ owners of the earlier 5th gens.

I answered my own question. In case anyone else is interested, you CAN disconnect the party mode switch, then jumper the connectors going to the rear hatch speakers, thereby allowing only the rear door speakers to work. Wired this way, they're pulling 4 ohms. When all four speakers are engaged, the four speakers pull 8 ohms because they're wired in series.
As an aside, after trying it this way, I didn't hear an appreciable difference, other than the soundstage was moved forward. So I removed the jumpers and left things as they were.
Forgive my ignorance (or lack of knowledge on car audio) but can I add Party Mode to my non-jbl entune system (2016 trail). I would like to do the switch up front and all. Ive read through this a few times and cant quite come to the conclusion that this is what this post is doing. If someone can steer me the right way it'd be much appreciated.

As an option it looks like running a new negative lead to both the left and right rear doors would bypass the Party Mode speaker change, but still be able to utilize the button to change the EQ? According to the wiring diagram, positive leads to both rear doors are direct from the head unit and don't pass through the relays. I'm trying to avoid hatch speaker jumpers and an accidental button push to ruin the system. As a side note, I just installed Alpine SPS-610C up front with sound deadener and when in Party Mode the improvement is fantastic! Non-party mode is terrible (SR5, non JBL, Type B HU).

Thanks Op. I did this mod to my 2013 4runnner SR5 with no jbl/navigation. On the head unit my wiring was a bit different. It has different harness plugs and locations. I am pointing to it with meter probe (pic below) I also used a pair of speaker wire harness for the rear door jumpers.

I am pretty pleased with the sound after this mod. Just last week, I replaced the stock speakers. The subaru kickers for tweeters. 6x9 kickers in front door and 6.5 rounds in the back doors. Now the system rocks all the nice new speaks to the best it can.

Did the new speakers make a significant difference in sound? Do the new speakers provide enough bass on their own?

Yes, big difference. you might want to pick up some thin foam tape to help seal the speakers against the door panels I notice a bit of rattling when the volume high. I might go back and add some. The bass is ok, not great.
one tip on installing the door panels is lower the window. it's easier to get the top edge clipped back in.

Did you have to buy speaker adapter/mounts for the front 6x9 doors speakers and the rear 6.5" door speakers? If so, where did you purchase them from? It looks like TacoTunes has front mounts that would work, but I really didn't see anything for the rear door speakers.

Hi rigtec! There's alot of input that confuses me on what I need done. I love your mod but I'm opting to just change the order of the rear speaker selections when PM is on, allowing only the rear doors to be on (full power) and cut (short) of the tailgate spkrs. Basically it's just a reverse stock operation. When PM off all speakers are on. It seem to look like the easy swap of wires at the relays. I have noted your diagram on the wiring swap. I imagine to do this swap I'll have to add (splice in) some wire to get the swaps to reach the connection points? and at what points I do the connections on. Please advise. Thank you.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but this is the only thing I could find while researching. I have a 2018 sr5p I replaced my front speakers with the powerbass oe speakers and wanting to do the same with my rear doors. I have subs so don't need the rear hatch speakers. Can I still use the jumper method without and damage since I don't have party mode on my 18? I'm running the car trim home t10 if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

Yes, same jumper procedure for later models. Easy to do. I did it in my 2016 and I do think it helps the stock head unit to be able to put out enough power for real speakers in the doors.
