Tires, how big w/out voiding warente?

Yeah, if there is some kind of reasonable explanation that could link your modifications as the cause of whatever is broken it will really come down to what the dealership tells Toyota.
I want to increase tire size so I've been trying to find out if anyone has had to deal with a warranty repair with a small lift and larger tires. For me I have a very slight groan feeling that I think is related to the front diff and if it becomes a problem in 20k miles I don't want toyota to deny a claim because I lifted the vehicle a little and put tires on. "Unfortunately" for me our trucks are reliable enough that there aren't a lot of major warranty claims so I haven't had much luck finding specific examples to try to figure out what I should expect.

In theory, the law is there to protect consumers from having warranty claims denied because aftermarket (non OEM) parts were installed. They can still deny a claim, but they need to have some reasonable explanation/proof of why the non-OEM part caused the failure.
In the case of a lift.... they could absolutely deny a claim on CV axles and other related parts that are impacted by drive line angles. However, they can obviously not claim that the lift caused the radio or AC controls to stop working. Steering rack would be one of those gray areas where they would most likely not cover it (but it depends). The main reason is, they don't fail very often, so when one does fail Toyota corporate is going to drill the dealer about possible aftermarket stuff.....
It really comes down to how common your failure is. If it is rare, and possibly linked to your modification.. it will be denied for sure. The dealers usually know how to play the game... and that game is don't mention the modifications unless they know the claim will be questioned....
I'm not really sure what happens with a non mfg extended warranty. I think they simply deny every expensive repair claim no matter what ;-)
As far as tire size goes... it is really not an issue at all. The lift is the only thing that would impact warranty. But most people are not going to be running a big tire without a lift... I say run the biggest tire you can fit and live with. It's going to kill the already poor MPG no matter what you go with. The only question is how much worse are you willing to tolerate.

This guy knows what he is talking about. If the modification didn't cause the problem that needs warranty work. they can't void your warranty unless they can prove that the modification caused the malfunction.
