Snow, mud / water
I was able to take my SUV up to Big bear thisweekend during the Southern California “snow storm”. Driving up the mountain at 4T5 MPH and 24-38 degrees F. Once we stopped and aired down I checked my air box and found a small collection of snowflakes inside.
I think it’s the design placement of the inlet in relation to the windshield. The windshield acts as a funnel. Once the inlet gets covered with enough snow a few lucky snowflakes make their way down into the air box.
I have re-installed this snorkel 2x to build check my silicon seal between the snorkel/intermediate tube/fender to make sure it’s good and I believe it’s sealed.
That being said , I did a few large puddles about a 1.5 -1.0 deep and some as long as 20 yards. Going across most of them as fast as I can ~ 20-30MPH. Allowing the mud and water to splash high enough to get on my roof and cover the windshield to the point I can’t see out of it until I used my windshield wipers.
While airing up I always check my air box and found a nice collection of mud water in my air box about 8 oz. Used my friend with no snorkel and another friend with a ARB snorkel and they had no mud slurry in bottom of their air boxes.
So where do think the water is entering ? Thru the top with help of the windshield or from the intermediate tube / fender / air box connection?
Any thoughts ?
