I'm coming-up on the 3-month mark of ownership (started this thread on 30 Oct 2017). I've been updating the bottom of that first post with what I have done.

With four weeks left until the the family Tahoe trip, I'm satisfied with the progress and preparations thus far. What else would I like to accomplish before departure? The below items come-to-mind:

Intake air filter (Pentius PAB7626)
Spark plugs (NGK 4302 BKR5EKPB-11)
Spark plug wires (NGK 4412, TE66 wire set, blue)
Clean throttle body and new gasket (Toyota, enlarged to O-shape from D)
Clean IAC and new gasket (Toyota)
Clean MAF

I already have all of that stuff. For those who have done the above, about how much time should I allot?

Sort of sucks to say it, but the HU will need to come-out for a bit as I want to add one more USB extensions to the back. I connect my iPhone to USB1 use CarPlay, and Apple Maps for navigation. Works great. However, when we want music on these trips, and the tunes are on my wife's phone, there was no way to accomplish this without using the HU's aux in for my wife's phone, or the other USB input. Pioneer confirmed. Will go the USB route as that will charge her phone also. So, this is set to arrive today:

That length (4.5') matches that of the Pioneer provided one, which works very well for routing to the parking brake location. Got a different color (blue) as the USB1 on the Pioneer HU is for Apple CarPlay and USB2 is for Google's Android Auto. While we both have iPhones, USB2 can be used as an input for any device. So, I'm glad I put the busted center bezel back-on as opposed to the replacement one I picked-up...

It seems like you have a pretty good skill set for wrenching so I'd say 1/2 day tops for that list.

As far as the seats go, I just picked up a beater Taco. Check my build thread for just how much of a beater. It's a deal I just couldn't pass up but the drivers seat is the worse I've ever seen. I'd almost feel bad putting really nice Limited seats in that rig but as I've gotten older my ass likes to be comfy. So the plan is to make it comfy as cheap as possible.

Thanks for the feedback on that last project before our trip. I'll set aside a whole day as it seems likely that I'll go off on a tangent and do something or get anal with some cleaning...

I check your build thread periodically. Actually, I check your trails and BS thread, so maybe that's why I wasn't aware. Either way, I'll take a look. A belated congrats to you! With little ones, it was a 4Runner for me; otherwise I would most likely have a Taco. Good for you.

As for me today, while I did not work on the Runner, I busted some serious hump for it though. I excavated a lot of earth, and even more in boulders. I now have a pathway just over 7 feet wide. It was about 3 feet when I started... Our 3rd gens look to have a track width of a little less than 6 feet.

I have a couple more boulders to remove, as seen below, but with some rains coming, I figured that I'd let the rain water help a little. In the background, above, one might be able to see all of the rocks and boulders removed...

I'll probably construct a shelter later in the summer. This is on the north side of the house, so little sun should hit it, early morning and late afternoon only. Thinking of a cantilever design carport so there will be fewer vertical supports to navigate. Or, a ledger board on the house, possibly...

Those seats turned out well and look perfect in there. I've also thought about getting all black trim and having them rapped in a pattern that looks like heavy brushed aluminum. I've seen that particular wrap in person and it looked great. There's also a local guy who does hydro-dipping although it's an expense that I really don't want to pay for but the end result looks like a factory application.

Great install and a nice runner. I just installed a system in my 2000 and the best thing I did was to put fast rings in the front door. Midbass is crazy now and zero rattles. I have stereo integrity tweets up high and stereo integrity tm65s in the doors. The fast rings made all the difference. I have 150 watts per side on the 6.5a in the doors and 90 per tweet with a euphoria dsp to set everything up. I also put an obsidian 10 in a tiny box in the back. Point is fast rings are amazing upgrades for only $25. Just a suggestion.

Haven't touched the Runner in several days. I've been working on the house, patching drywall much of the day, in preparation for texturing. The house has some aluminum wiring too, so I've been addressing those wires now, opening-up the walls where needed, best before texture and paint...

As for the 4Runner, by Friday I hope to add a few decals, so something not very time-consuming. These came yesterday:

Leading stars, one for each side's rear window. On the back glass, I'll put a decal of my undergrad school, and this US flag decal:

My house had some aluminum as well. It doesn't anymore. Keep after it and find any junction boxes the wiring connects in. Straight runs of aluminum are OK but whenever there's a wire nut tying them together it's a recipe for disaster.

About a year after we purchased our house the electric water heater quit working. I looked up the serial number and it was less then 5 years old. I pulled out the multi-meter and was getting 110 where I should have had 240. Weird.

I did all the other tests for both thermostats and elements. Both passed. I looked at the wiring coming into the unit and there was a junction box about 8 feet away on my garage wall. I shut down the circuit and opened that box.

The lines coming from the panel were aluminum. The lines going to the heater were copper. Have you ever seen a wire nut that was just simply gone? Like it had arced out so many times even the sleeve was unrecognizable? Yeah, I have.

Turns out all that stuff you learned in school about thermal expansion of dissimilar metals actually has a real world use. Who would have thought? lol

Good stuff. I've read many accounts on this topic... I have wire nuts with both copper and aluminum, in what will be bedrooms for my children. Bothersome for sure, so I'm directing time there now.

I did the baseboards and door casings in my home office last year, and while it turned-out pretty good, it took quite a while for me as a novice. I have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry room and hall to tackle on that side of the house. I just decided that I'm going to hire someone. How does one locate a professional baseboard installer? I imagine most contractors will not be interested in such a small project...

Last year my wife's folks arrived about 24 hours after I finished the guest bath remodel. I literally put the grout sealer on the morning they got in. lol

Are you dealing with paint grade or stain grade trim?

As far as finding someone to do the trim work call around. I'd look for a local handyman that can give you good references. If he'll work hourly and give you a reasonable time frame I'd let him trim it. Anything over 16 hours is too long. If I was closer I'd do it on a Saturday for you.

Damn, baseboards and casings in one day?! We're talking 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, laundry and hallway. You are skilled for sure to work at such a clip. Maybe if I added-in those seats you might be enticed to trek out here, lol.

Speaking of your locale, I've been there a few times, usually on my way to Lone Pine for Whitney summits. Beautiful area. Some would say God's country, but I guess that is not appropriate to say these days...

Not much going-on with the Runner as I'm knee-deep in the house, and will be for a while...

I'm missing a fastener here, and on the opposite side. Are these the push button types, like we have in our doors?

All of decals are in place, and look pretty good. A shot of a US flag going-on. Using the blue tape to help with positioning...

If my memory serves me correctly that is actually a screw missing. I have had mine removed for years now. I should have installed it back but everything has held in place fine for many years so oh well.

It is the center push-in type two-piece plastic clips. Similar to the doors but not the same.

Hopefully they are still available in the correct color. I have one or two extras in my parts bin as spares for the next time they break. Those were really brittle and broke when I removed them the first time.
