Tow Hitch Replacement Nightmare

Don't know if this has been answered but is the hitch found on the 4Runner a Class 2 hitch ? I'm towing a UHaul trailer for the first time on my 05 and while I'm pretty sure everything is gravy I have a tendancy to get these things mixed up...

The 70411 has been discontinued. I tired to order that one and got 70779 instead. But if anyone still has the 70411, get it from them. You don't need the wiring kit. My truck didn't come with any hitch, but it had the 7-pin socket in the back and a pig-tail harness for a brake controller.

Does anyone know why they discontinued the HH 70411? Seems that this would be the upgrade hitch of choice, since it matches the factory Toyota hitch specs.

Well, I am glad I got mine when I did, and I would encourage anyone who plans to tow larger loads to buy one while a few are still available.

Does anyone know where we can still find the 70411? I just bought an 03 V8 and have to have a 7000 lb hitch! Are there any other alternatives besides the HH 70411?
 
If you look in the www.hiddenhitch.com site you can find a list of "E-commerce Dealers". Use the Dealer locator there. I ordered one yesterday from www.accessconnect.com.

It's still a bit weird to me that they are discontinuing this hitch in favor of one that seems less strong. I hope is not due to customer complains or anything like that.

Did you call them to verify that they had it in stock? Good price and free shipping! I'll have to call them tomorrow, I'd hate to order it and have them ship the other HH to me.
 
No I didn't, maybe I should have uh? I'll give them a call tomorrow. Their "order status" page has no additional info about my order, other than the part # and quantity.

I just called them, they don't have any left. I will call some other places but what are we supposed to do if no one has it???

Sniggle, I sent you a PM, please check it! PLEASE tell us where you found the 70411 at, I have tried about 10 places and no one has it.
 
That is exactly where I ordered mine from a few days ago (accessconnect.com will redirect you to that site). I called them a couple of days after placing my order online, they told me they do have it but that it ships directly from Hidden Hitch and they gave me a tracking #. At the UPS site I noticed the shipment originated in Canada (Ontario I believe?). Anyway, I should get it in a few days, I hope I get the excact model I ordered.

I encourage you to use the string trick to get the most forward bolts w/plates in position. I struggled mightly to find the bolts inside the frame rails before I developed a more logical approach.

Here it is again:
- feed a string into the large insertion hole in the side of the frame rail and get the string out through the hole the bolt will sit in. I used a coat hanger to easily guide the string to the correct hole inside the beam.
- put the plate over the string and drop it into the bbeam.
- tie the string to the bottom threads of the bolt and drop it into the hole.
- pull the string to gather the plate and bolt at the hole
- use your fingers to get the bolt to drop through the plate and into the hole.
- Leave the string on as it will aid you when positioning the hitch (my wife was actually able to help me)

Also, try to re-install the 2 facia screws below the bumper nearest the hitch before tightening up the hitch, as it is a real tight squeeze. I could not get them back in, and decided to just leave them out as the bumper facia does not pop out very much.

Well I got my hitch today, they sent me a 70779. So I called them up, told them what happened. Got a call back from them about 2 hours later saying they have contacted all 5 hidden hitch warehouses and there are absolutely no 70411's left anywhere, but they found one that a customer returned to them when they decided they didn't want it in their warehouse. Lady told me it has some scratches and one of the mounting tabs was slightly bent but could easily be bent back into place with a hammer. She said it has all hardware, cust sent it back with no box and a ups label on it (anyone here do this???). She said they would send that one to me discounted if I wanted it, so I said heck yea send it! Should have it in a few days, hope it's not too beat up! I'll hit it with some POR-15 and repaint it and fix the bend before I install. Better than paying dealer price for an oem hitch!
 
Well I got the 70411 the day after I called them about it! The only thing that was bent was one of the tabs for the electrical socket, took a whole 5 seconds to hit it back into place. Nothing more than a few scratches on it. Can't wait to get it installed!
 
Well, that's awesome Jeff, congratulations. I had no idea there were so few of them left. I had mine installed yesterday. Haven't tested it yet but it looks great. :D
