Where is agood place to hook up a tow strap to the front of a 08 SR5... i have been told that the two "loops" or "hooks" on the bottom are not ment for towing stuck cars or trucks. THey are ment for tie your car down to secure it to something... is this true and if so where would you guys recommend hooking a strap up to?

This has been discussed before , but to no real decision on what the loops are for . My guess is that if they made them to secure them during shipping then there would be one at each corner and there is not , I've pulled stump's and tractors out using them with no problem , best way is to get a shackle that slides into the receiver. They are about $50.00
My other thought is that if they are used to secure during shipping , they must be strong enough to hold the weight for extended periods of time , wouldn't you think ?

YEah i a volunteer ff and EMT...i gotta get my camera fixed and then im gonna put up some pics and ill get a video going on youtube... i meant i always used the shackel in the back to pull ppl out. But i was wondering if i could pull from the front... i mean if it breaks off it breaks off....just dont get in the way the ****ing strap and were good...you got any lights on 4runner

I'm going to try pulling on the front and rear loops , next time I get a chance to pull someone out and see what happens.
The think thats nice about the shackle is pulling dead center off the rear .
Cedar , where do you have your strobes mounted , colors . I was thinking just doing the amber's in front and amber's in rear. I would think they would be hard to see in the tail lights compared to signal lights . The amber's would be for emer. situations warnings only. I know everyone is hot on led's , but the strobes are nice because everything is hidden away and dont have to worry about someone breaking in to take anything.
I have dash led red/blue that I use for different purpose.

Ok...dumb question. So, if we're not sure if those hooks are strong enough to tow people out, and we're driving a 4runner for goodness sakes... then where do we secure the tow strap to say a honda or a celica that loses control on the road and gets stuck in a snow embankment?

I actually used my front loops yesterday to pull out a neon. He foolishly drove into deep snow and floated his whole car on it.
I attached a strap to his rear undercarraige, and hooked it up to my front left loop and pulled him out in 4L. If you ask me, those loops will tow out anything that could be reasonably expected. I betcha that they'd hold the car back if it were on pavement in 4l at full power.
What I don't think you can do is tug out a f-350 with a 25,000 pound strap. Maybe a stretchy one.
Has anyone actually pulled one out? Until then, I think it's fine. Even when that happens, it could be replaced or re-welded. it is securely anchored to the frame of the vehicle.
