Towing (ball mount question)

I can't find my old ball mount so I am using my factory one and need to pick up a ball.
I have the v8 and it says to mount the ball and use the ball mount upside down so the tongue is up. The v6 is supposed to be mounted tongue down.

Does anyone know the reason?

So I went out to find a ball and none would fit the toyota hitch. The shank is to large. I couldn't find any spacer that would let a 1 shank work. Anyone know what Toyota charges for a ball that works

You should be able to use any 2" (class III or IV, I think) trailer hitch ball mount. I think they recommend flipping it due to the different in heights of the V6 vs. V8 receivers... the factory V6 receiver is higher up than the weight-distributing receiver of the V8.

Doozi is correct about the different V6 and V8 hitch heights. But check the trailer you'll be using, as you may still need a different hitch mount with a different drop or rise.
