Not that rim size matters for tread measurements, but my rim size is 8" and the tread measures 8 3/8".

Too much room for error without the proper measuring tool for the sidewall, but looked right around the stated 265 mm or around 10.8 on my ruler.

I'll check it out tomorrow. I did measure the tread width previously and was surprised it was like spot on to the Toyo claimed width. I think that and the sidewall.

I think you should be more concerned about the sidewall width compared to the rim and compared to the tread. Not just tread vs rim. Right? I know what you mean by the bubble effect..

Well, not really, because if you go by sidewall width you could put a 225 or 235 series tire on an 8.5" wheel and the sidewall width would still be greater. But you and I both know that a 235 would look absolutely ridiculous...if you could even get the beads to seat and take air.

Hey, thanks for the pics. Those tires and wheels look great together. But that "ballooning" is a little more than what I'm after so those pics help me out a lot. Looks like I'm going to have to try and get a 275 or 285 tire under mine somehow. Nice 4R...thanks for the pics.

One quick mention is that I thought the 265 and/or 275/285 is referring to the sidewall diameter (total) width right? I think you're thinking right on the tread width. I'm wondering which tires have the wider tread vs their total width. BFG A/T's maybe? They always seem like a nice straight sidewall with no ballooning, when I see others pictures at least.

All stuff I knew, although I think I was off on one of my numbers by not looking it up....

We're referring to the width of the tread in comparison to the sidewall. And I think I had said it was around 8 3/8" tread width (on Tapatalk and don't feel like starting my comment over to look)..

I wish Toyo's sizing chart was easier to read. I can't tell if the 285/65 18's come with white lettering or not. I know they are the Extremes but can't tell about the lettering.......:rockthrow:

I feel like i am getting close to the edge....lol. I went to a couple of shops, wanting to see a set of these in person. The problem i ran into was that the 285/65 18 Extremes seem to be a special order deal. Where did you guys order yours?

Treaddepot.com has that size toyo, or did you already get them? I'm about month late seeing this post. And the worst decision maker ever since I still havemt bought anything for mine. But I drive less than 7500 miles a year so it's not a huge rush for me since I have a company vehicle.

Toyo OC AT2 On FJ Rims

I just purchased these in the P rated stock 265/65/17 and put them on some FJ rims I purchased on Craigslist. I can't believe how aggressive they look in the P rated. I was debating between the General Grabber AT2s, Firestone Destination ATs, and the Open Country AT2s. I went from the terrible Dunlop AT20 to these and maybe that is the reason they look so aggressive - more than I expected. The pictures online don't really show it that well.

The ride is just a tad harsher and there is a very slight hum, but other than that they feel good. It has only been a few days since I have had them on so things might change and I will update.

I do 98% of all driving on the road. I only go off road to hunt and hike, so I didn't want an overly agressive tire. That is why I chose not to get the Grabber. I almost got the Destinations and then saw this link. The pictures of the P rated OC AT2s make it seem less agressive than it really is in person. It is more aggressive than I will need, but so far I am pretty pleased.

balancing issues/defective tires?

Has anyone had an issue with getting brand new Open Country AT2s balanced or have defective tires from the factory? I have had 1 tire replaced under warranty (within 100 miles of purchase) and about to have a 2nd replaced under warranty (within 4000 miles of purchase). Currently, I have been able to get all the tires balanced except for 1 of them. I never had this issue on my 97 SR5 with the 2 sets of Open Coutry ATs that I ran on it.

Did I just get unlucky with this purchase?

Absolutely perfect here - no issues at all. But I think I only have like 4-5k miles I'd guess.

I don't think they make either of those.

You can get the LT E version of the 265s which honestly wouldn't be bad in this particular tire.

i have had these so far for over a month already 265/75/16 lt load range c. very happy with this choice and no regrets. ill buy these again over any BFG AT's!
