Toyo Open Country A/T II

Got them on today. I have to say these tires are pretty great. They balanced with almost no weight and roll super smooth. I was suprised to see how deep the tread is as well how much void space there is for these being an A/T tire. I am definantly happy with them!

Here are a few quick pictures I took when I got off work. Will try to get some better ones later. These are LT285/70R17

Just to give an up date.....Ive had them for about a week and have put about 200 miles on them. So far I have nothing bad to say about them. The tires do give just a bit of noise (barely noticeable over wind noise) at hwy speeds but have excellent road manners. My 285/70s actually get better MPG on the interstate at 70mph than the 265/70s MTZs they replaced. They are super smooth and the ride is quite nice for an E rated tire. Hopefully I will get to play in the dirt with them over the holidays a report back.

I've got 500 miles or so on mine. I have a small balance issue, but with these trucks, it's hard to pin it all on the tires. After I get my new LBJ's installed, along with poly steering rack bushings, I'll see what the shimmy feels like.

These tires rock in the snow! Drove through blizzard conditions very early thursday morning, and then through quite a bit of snow, packed snow, ice and slush thursday and today. Just as good as Duratracs, from my experience.

Yeah, brand new, they are definitely awesome in snow. I hope they fair as well when they are half worn. Today I've been driving on icy, snow packed side roads in 2wd....even climbed a pretty steep little hill in 2wd. The hill was slick enough that if you would have gotten out and been on foot...you could have slid down it on your boots.

Very pleased with snow performance. I'll try to do a actual side by side comparo with my sisters Duratracs if we can find a time to go out together and see who gets stuck first.

Yeah that must be the picture. So does the LT tire have extreme written on it? Or is this just an old concept picture that toyo used?

Curious to see a side by side picture of the LT vs P rated.

sorry about the non-4r sample, but here's my tahoe with the LT style AT2s (285/60/18). it definitely looks more aggressive than the P units.

according to the toyo at2 spec sheet, for example, you can get a 265/70 in the less aggressive P style or LT style. LT style is E rated and about 8 lbs heavier.

just a little tahoe 101. this current gen has actually been out for 5 years and will be outed in 2014. mine's also a hybrid which features a bespoke aerokit all around the truck which makes it significantly boxier yet reduces cD.

my hybrid is 30%+ less sippy on gas, has more power, and drives markedly quieter/smoother than the regular model. i'm really enjoying it. mine is lowered a bit and i got rid of the chrome accents up front. roof rails were added as well

AT2s are great btw. super smooth. i don't think they like high psi. i went from 40 down to 35 cold and it took out some of the road vibrations.

i'm just a huge fan of good vehicles just like you fellas. thx!

Traction wise, any feel for how the Open Country compares to Terra Grappler and GY Silent Armor in mud and snow?

we had about 4-5 inches of slushy snow last week, i was bummed because 4wd was not necessary. the rears slipped once in some really heavy thick muck but that was it. they were pretty darn impressive.

So I talked to the tire shop that I want to go to, they quoted me $1,044 for:

- (5) Cooper Discoverer AT3's (P rated) 265-70-17
- mounted
- balanced
- disposal
- Everything usual
- And free alignment (makes me want to take my 5100's off and lift them another notch, but alas, I don't feel like taking everything apart..)

They are making a few calls about the Toyo Open County AT2's and will call me about them on Monday.

So my final decision will be made on Monday... Any last thoughts? If they say they can't get the Toyo's, my decision will become a little easier at least... Lol

typically authorized dealers get better pricing than non.
